The Anheuser-Busch Company, which brews Budweiser beer in St. Louis, loses a lawsuit against the Czech company Budvar, which produces its own beer called Budweiser, for the right to use the trademark in Finland.
Excuse me, this is an audio link.
Wassssssssabi!
Geez, who can drink that crap anyway with all of the fine microbrews in this country?
The Original Budweiser from Czeckoslovakia is perhaps the finest beer in the world. When I lived in Germany, home of over 600 different brands of beer, many Germans would say this!
Didn't the Czech name for the product pre-date the American one? Back in my home-brew days, I seem to remember reading something about the 'original' Budweiser from Bohemia (present Czech Republic).
Better than Pilsner Urquell? Wow, that is saying something.
Personally I like the Belgian trappist ales and most British ales.
I have had the privilege of drinking the original Bud from Chech and it is indeed one of the worlds finest. The Bud from St. Louis barely qualifies as beer even under the most liberal of definitions. I call it "fizzy alcohol water."
These days I enjoy Sam Adams or a Dos Equus green, which I can find "on tap" out here in Las Vegas.
Well, I prefer Urquell meself, but the real Budvar is pretty good too...
Budweis is the German name for the town of Ceske Budejowice, Hence Budweiser! To my knowledge the Czechs have been making this beer since the 19th century! If I was a judge that would mean a lot...also I would rule against AB for "Crimes against Humanity"!...every bottle of beer they produce!
Isn't "Czechvar", which is marketed in America, the same thing as Budvar ?
A roasted pig, some steins of Bud, a young Czeck lady....ah, those were the days!
OTOH, upon further rumination, the original Bud is still hard to find as is Pilsner Urquell so I would grab one with the left and the other with the right!
Never had it, but the Czech beer Pilsner Urquell is fantastic (although inconsistent).
My favorite beer is somewhat hard to find, but well worth the search -- Paulaner (from Germany).
Pilsner Urquell is my mainstay beer and I put it a notch above their Budweiser (Budvar). It is important to buy the beer in cases though in order to obtain maximum taste. If you buy it in six-packs off the shelf, the beer was most likely exposed to too much light (green bottles).
I live 5 hours drive from Plzen and can get it here in Germany and I prefer to drive to Czech to get it!
Buy Pilsner Urquell by the case (see above) and it should no longer be inconsistent. Also pay heed to the freshness date. After one year, the beer starts to lose its flavor and some of the smaller stores might have had this beer in stock for many months. I only buy Pilsner Urquell from stores that have high turnover of product so I am always buying fresh.
the belgian Quak is my personal favorite, then I also love London Pride but the best beer made in America would have to be Finnigans brewed privatly at the Schmidt Brewery in St Paul. (nice plug for my rugby sponsor!!)
