I wondered if someone could tell me the meaning of the peace sign? I had heard it has another meaning.

Yes it does. In Hawaii it means "I'm enjoying two-finger poi."

To someone like Rosie and Hillary, it means something entirely different and unsanitary and disgusting.

It is sometimes known as the footprint of the american chicken Andy Robinson wore it as a belt buckle in "dirty Harry".

My personnel favorite is the one with a B-52 as the center piece of the peace symbol.

Meaning of the Peace Symbol

The circle represents Global
The line going straight up and down represent the flag language letter, D in Disarmament.
The lines going out to the sides represent the flag language letter, N for Nuclear.
Full meaning; Global Nuclear Disarmament

It was the symbol for the "ban the bomb" movement in the early sixties in Britain. It was brought from there and used to represent the "peace movement" in the US. The only peace which resulted from this movement was the peace of the grave suffered by the victims of totalitarian regimes. The irony is the participants in the movement feel they were on the the side of right and so feel not one iota of shame despite the lessons of history.

In the late '60's at The Citadel we referred to it as "The Great American Chicken-foot."

In addition to using the semaphoric signald for N and D for "Nuclear Disarmament" it also represents and anti-Christian upside-down cross or Satan's pitchfork.

Many recognisable symbols have different meanings...I think the context it is used in, matters most.

if you mean the symbol, not the hand-signal, then you may have heard it referred to as "the footprint of the American chicken"
