CHICAGO - Even though he is not required to under election laws Jack Ryan is promising to return up to 1.5 million in campaign funds he raised for his now defunct Senate campaign. Ryan had planned on running a tough U.S. Senate race from Illinois until a judge decided to unseal "sealed" records from the Ryan custody hearings between Ryan and actress ex-wife Jeri Ryan. The former Mrs. Ryan had made unsubstantiated allegations about Jack taking her to sex clubs on trips to New York and Paris.
Politicians from Hillary Clinton to former Illinois Governor George Ryan have made practice of raising all kinds of cash during election season then often holding onto whatever amount did not get spent.
The Ryan campaign is presently sorting out expenses to date and closing the books on the campaign. And according to staffers Ryan has pledged to pay any back salaries and outstanding costs from his own pocket.

jack ryan sounds like a made up name.
plus who here hasnt forced thier wives to go to sex clubs??
Now theres an intelligent response.
Wonder if Slick will give his book proceeds back, now that pretty much everyone has come forward to point out the lies (Ehud Barak, Monica, Jennifer)...
Unbelievable.
thanks!
I heard this as well and I was surprised. Appears they don't want to follow the "get Kerry's divorce records" crowd.
I think this speaks louder than words. My respect for this guy just went up ten points.
Well, I've got news for the panel, but that kind of attitude doesn't go down very well in fly-over country. I especially couldn't believe how they could ignore the security considerations. No wonder pols don't have to undergo backround checks.
I wouldn't hold my breath, but I hope he does repay them. That would be outstanding.
"Speaking of this guy, you know what appalled me? I was watching Hume's show on FNC last night, and almost to a person they thought this info never should have seen the light of day. Kondrache(sp) was the only one who thought the press should've reported it in a wishy-washy sort of way. But they all thought this was just private business. Hume even euphemistically referred to that sex club as avante-garde. Which has got me wondering about Hume now, BTW. But compartmentalization ruled. They all thought that being a degenerate in your private life won't affect your public life. And gee, no-one will want to run for anything if stuff like this gets out about a candidate. No-one but degenerates in the talent pool I guess. That I can believe. And no mention of the blackmail or security concerns that could happen if people like Ryan are elected. It's just private business.
Unbelievable."
I saw that as well last night. I think what irks some, like Hume, is that a divorce record contains the most inflamatory rhetoric when the divorce is "heated" as this one obviously was. Its a legalized "smear job" that rarely is given the light of day during the negotiations.
I also noted the comment about what kind of club, as Hume mentioned. Keep in mind beyond our shores those kinds of "clubs" are accepted. Most countries don't view sex the way we do here in America, for better or worse I cannot say.
What I came away thinking was "Bet each of their positions would be decisively different if it was their divorce being run through the public grist mill".
Bet on it.
He wants to run again in the future. That's what's motivating this I'll wager.
And my advice to folks who are worried about dirty laundry: Don't make it. Then they'll never have to worry :)
bye bye newbie!
Exactly. Have any of these accusations been proven? People in the process of divorce often say very, very vicious things about each other (duh). What rational test were these accusations subjected to?
There's no way to judge Ryan the candidate until the accusations can be sifted out. Anyone can accuse anyone of anything - should that be grounds to never run for office? Or should you run for office only if you're certain the press will shill for you, hide what you want them to, sling mud at who you tell them to?
Since we know the pres will not behave, the voters need to use some reasoned judgment.
Probably won't, after reading this thread.
Nice.
Perhaps a more intelligent question would be why wont Kerry release his divorce records?
huh?
The very least he can do, after lying and costing the GOP a senate seat.
Well "Hoosiers" have done so much to HELP the U.S. Senate - oh yeah Evan Byah - he's just a gem...Even the republican from Indiana is an embarrassment these days - honestly - who names their Lugars Dick anymore...
