WASHINGTON - With just over four months until election day, a near-majority of Americans believe the nation is headed in the wrong direction and that President Bush deliberately misled the public to make the case for war in Iraq, the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds. Yet even with those less-than-positive numbers for the president, the survey also shows that the race between Bush and presumptive Democratic nominee John Kerry is a statistical tie.
According to the poll, which was conducted by Hart/Teeter, Bush gets the support of 45 percent of registered voters, Kerry gets 44 percent, and independent candidate Ralph Nader gets 4 percent.

I listened to NBC Nightly News on the drive home, as a local radio station broadcasts the local NBC TV affiliate at newstime. Tom Brokjaw kept giving promos to this story, saying that Bush was being "hammered" in the polls. However, it appears this poll is actually good news for Dubya, as his numbers on the economy are getting better, and despite all the biased spin NBC can muster, Kerry cannot move up in the polls.

It's the electrol college that matters most.

A good demonstration of just how poor a candidate kerry is

I don't see how this qualifies as "down". He hasn't lost ground, and he's ahead of Kerry.

And the poll on November 2nd!

They are getting more transparent. When they can't fudge the head to head numbers enough with oversampled D's, then lead with anything bad for Bush they can dig up, no matter how minute.

I am not familiar with the "Hart/Teeter" Poll, but it seems in line with almost all of the other "Registered" voter polls. W with a slight lead. Was he up further than this in the last "Hart/Teeter" poll?

The "down but not out" is from NBC. However, in their last poll on 5 May, Bush had 46%. So how is he "down"? What, one point? Is that even statistically measurable to declare him DOWN? LoFL!!!!! They'll do ANYTHING to slam Dubya, won't they?
This photo from Protest Warrior says it ALL!!!!!

Bush gets the support of 45 percent of registered voters, Kerry gets 44 percent
Given the fact that Bush leads 45/44, where do they get the title "Bush Down But Not Out"??????

So when taking the average of this poll, the CNN poll, the CBS poll and the Fox News poll, I have Bush ahead by 3 ish...and thats without Nader.....
they are dreaming if they think Kerry will be able to overtake Bush in the summer, he might be in the lead for a week or so after his convention, but Bush will blow him out of the water...

They are definently spinning these polls.
"Registered" voters and "Likely" voters are too different animals.
Alot of the Old Mainstream Press polls are reporting registered voters results.. they show a deadheat..
They aren't telling you what their "Likely" voters polls are saying. Likely voters polls are more accurate, and they tend to add 3-4% to the GOP candidate.
So if NBC registered voters poll has Bush by 1.. It's much more likely to be Bush by 4 or 5 among likely voters.

I think things are really looking up for Bush. Today i caught a democratic (Cadell) and a republican (?) strategist on FOX. Oddly enough both seemed to agree that Bush isn't doing great, but they both agreed that Kerry is in real trouble.
In fact the FOX poll showed Bush with a 4 point lead in Michigan. Also it seems that battleground states are states that easily went to Gore in 2000. That ain't good news for Kerry.
On a side note, I really like Pat Cadell. He's a democrat but he's also a realist. Ive liked him since the day he told Chris Matthews that the media is a wing of the democratic party and it's despicable. He also calls Terry McAuliff a vampire.
