The DOW just erased its losses for the session and is now up about 20 points.

From the Fed website: "Although incoming inflation data are somewhat elevated, a portion of the increase in recent months appears to have been due to transitory factors. The Committee perceives the upside and downside risks to the attainment of both sustainable growth and price stability for the next few quarters are roughly equal."

The market feared a 1/2 point rise, 1/4 point was priced in. A series of these marginal increases may occur. But the dollar won't strengthen fast enough to hurt our exports before the election. This is very favorable for the President's reelection.

The evidence accumulated over the intermeeting period indicates that output is continuing to expand at a solid pace and labor market conditions have improved. Although incoming inflation data are somewhat elevated, a portion of the increase in recent months appears to have been due to transitory factors.

How is the media going to spin that? Eh, why spin it when you can just ignore it? =(

Please fix the title.

In an election year it should read:

INTEREST RATES INCREASE 25% IN ONE DAY! BUSH ECONOMY TO BLAME!

Well....that's life.

If Span eventually drives commercial mortgage rates up past 7-7.5%, it will stop folks like me. I'm guessing this will push 5 year balloons on 15-20 year AMs up to around 5.5-6%

Wasn't Greenspan raising the FOMC during 92 and W the elder's election run as well?
