Results of Chicago Teacher's Union election thrown out
June 29, 2004 The results of the recent election for Chicago Teachers Union president have been declared invalid.
Special education teacher Marilyn Stewart won the June Eleventh contest, but a union committee says the election was possibly unfair. Stewart beat sitting president Deborah Lynch by 566 votes.
An attorney for the union says the results have been thrown out because many more ballots were sent out than returned. The attorney also says many teachers were absent on the day of the election, but their votes were still recorded. Also, about 25 signatures on ballots didn't match those from an earlier election.
The June Eleventh election was the second in this race. A May 21st election failed to produce a candidate who received the necessary 50 percent or more of the vote.
Voting irregularities? In Chicago?? This is unprecendented!!
If the incumbent had won by 566 votes, would any of this be going on?
Got any pictures of the ladies? Could be a quota problem here...........
This seems silly, the irregularities don't appear to add up to that amount.
Was that picture of dashcle taken in the Calvary or the Union voting district of Chicago? :^)
" An attorney for the union says the results have been thrown out because many more ballots were sent out than returned."
I think they mean more ballots were returned than were sent out.
Stupid twits.. 'sposed to be "more ballots returned than sent out." Sorta like 110% voter participation in Philadelphia, Chicago or any other predominate Dem area.
Of course, the Dems just don't get it... some people don't vote.
Ummm, maybe they didn't understand the instructions - this is a teacher's union, right?
