Marina Workers Call Police On Suspicious Man Employees at a Beach Boulevard marina say the man was asking strange questions before renting a boat from them. The unidentified man wanted to know about local landmarks, bridge schedules, boat traffic and how it would affect the Super Bowl. The game will be held in Jacksonville next year.
Witnesses say the man was dressed in a suit when he went out on a pontoon boat for 30 minutes Saturday, and was wearing the same business suit Sunday. He was also wearing it in his California driver's license photo.
One employee tells our news partner Channel 4, "he called 7 times, confirming his rental" which he paid for in cash.
Other boaters say the man didn't know how to run the pontoon boat, and asked them to draw him a map.
A domestic security task force is now investigating the case, and wouldn't offer anymore details.
Well, this isn't good news, but it is good to read it. Pre-911, this little incident would have brushed off by the Marina staff as just a wierd customer. Now? Here it is on Freerepublic. Hopefully someone more important than me is reading it too.
California driver's license
OK, I'll ask:
Was he an Arab?
I'm gonna guess that the guy wasn't Jewish.
Thankfully, wierd behavior is now considered wierd and worthy of note. When potential terrorists start acting normally, then we can really start worrying.
Is there any event planned there for the near future,,seems to be early for superbowl,,anything there this summer?
If the guy was white, they surely would've said so, and made more of an effort to get his white-sounding name.
Not early for good planning. You should see all the tee times that are already booked for that week.
Well, not too long after 9/11 a guy in a rented minivan was sitting at the side of the road by our local airport with a camcorder videotaping the gates, enterances, fancing, aircraft coming or going, and any buildings nearby.
Local police reation?
"Nothing to see, move aong. Just some quirky man with a camcorder fetish."
I sometimes wonder just who the videotape was for, who that guy was, why he was doing the taping and where he is now.
I saw that on the news the other night. As a resident of Jax I do realize this city is a prime target with all of the cargo coming out of the ports. I am glad we have a local Navy, Coast Guard and Army Reserves base.
Any of you guys ever play this game?
Exactly. Talk abot leaving out the big clue..
Hey! Remember, NO RACIAL PROFILING!
Just because all 9/11 terrorists were Arab, those currently committing atrocities in Iraq are Arab and the Islamoterrorists reiterate their 'Death to America' fatwas seemingly every day, DOESN'T MEAN WE NEED TO DISCRIMINATE.
/sarcasm off
"California driver's license"
Yep... see what happened when they elected that Rino Arnold !
( The new law is that anyone who owns one business suit can get a license )
Lets see, why didn't they call the cops right after they rented him the boat. The cops could have been waiting for him when he got back. I sure hope this guy doesn't do anything.
We have been having 99 degree days and fierce storms every afternoon. Getting arrested probably saved his life, from either heatstroke or drowning.
There's actually a large number of hobbyists who "collect" sightings of specific airliners.
Incident where a British one was arrested by the Greeks or something a couple years ago, I think....
Summer's plans have already taken shape. These guys are long term planners.
Did they at least talk to that guy. Maybe that guy was a nut job. My fear is that they could be sending out guys just to probe us. When they think we have become to lackadaisical they will send out the real thing.
