McCain discusses immigration

PHOENIX - The federal government has failed to address illegal immigration in the Southwest and needs to wake up, Sen. John McCain told Hispanic leaders Saturday. "It is in our national interest to bring the 8 to 12 million undocumented immigrants out of the shadows and allow them an opportunity to become citizens of this great nation," McCain said at the annual conference of the National Council of La Raza.

The Washington-based civil rights group and political think tank dedicates itself to promoting Hispanic issues.

McCain said federal policy and border enforcement have failed to alleviate the deaths of migrants crossing the sweltering southwestern desert and the extreme violence of immigrant smugglers who often hold victims for ransom once they have transported them into America.

He said the most recent failure is the introduction of unmanned aerial vehicles in Arizona that use thermal and night-vision equipment to help Border Patrol agents spot illegal immigrants trying to cross the desert into the United States.

"That ignores the fundamental problem," he said. "Where there's a demand, there's a supply ... There's a demand for people to fill jobs that Americans won't do."

Until people recognize that demand, he said the illegal immigration problem will go unsolved.

Last year, McCain proposed legislation to the U.S. Senate for a guest-worker program that would allow immigrants to work in the states for three years and then apply for legal permanent residency. It also would allow undocumented immigrants already working in the Unites States to obtain a restricted visa for three years and then a normal guest-worker visa for another three years. At the end of that time, they could apply for legal permanent residency.

During his speech Saturday, McCain briefly referred to his plan and other guest-worker proposals, including one by President Bush.

"These are all good proposals but we won't act because we're in an election year," he said. "The human tragedy taking place on our streets and the ... border must be stopped."

They've repeated this lie so often that they believe it now.

"These are all good proposals but we won't act because we're in an election year," he said.

I want to ask, when have any politicians acted with any effect with illegal immigration? Election year or not? What does it take to make all of you folks in Washington take action on this problem? Will you every take the right kind of action? How many years does it take to address this situation? It's been out of control for over 30 years. Is there really that many jobs available that the U.S. worker doesn't want to do to be able to say that there is a need for over 10 to 12 million illegals in the U.S.?

McCain said at the annual conference of the National Council of La Raza.

So this stupid turd is in complete agreement with both Kerry and Juanterm on this issue.

Kerry Campaign: Extending the American Dream, Reforming America's Immigration Laws
McCain and Giuliani to Be Spotlighted at G.O.P. Convention
MCCAIN ON BUSH BANDWAGON

What a pathetic, treasonous nightmare.

""There's a demand for people to fill jobs that Americans won't do." "

In my personal experience and that of many other employers with whom I've discussed the issue agree.

Why do you say the statement is false? And please don't insult everyone's intelligence with that idiotic argument that Americans would do the jobs if they were paid enough. If roofers and road construction laborers had to be paid $50 per hour there would just be less new roofs and roads, not more Americans working.

Why do you think it's a lie that illegals fill jobs that Americans won't do? From what I've seen in the landscape and construction sectors illegals are used up without regard to protecting their health and often cheated out of their pay. These sectors work the young illegals beyond exhaustion. I just don't see too many Americans lining up for this treatment.

Who the do you think did those "jobs Americans won't do" before the millions of illegal Mexicans came to this country?

When I lived in So. Cal the jobs in question are primarily taken by illegals. Up here in the Northwest, however, American citizens (primarily) fill those same exact jobs. The mantra McCain spewed is complete bullsh/t.

Can we use the same argument for drugs?

That bears repeating, Willie.

Senator McCain, R - "It is in our national interest to bring the 8 to 12 million undocumented immigrants out of the shadows and allow them an opportunity to become citizens of this great nation," McCain said at the annual conference of the National Council of La Raza.

And in the opposite corner:

Senator Kerry, D - Today at the National Council of La Raza's annual conference, John Kerry will continue to talk about his plans to open the doors of opportunity and expand access to the American Dream, including reforming America's immigration laws."

No one, in many cases. Our standard of living has increased because of the affordability of services. When I was young no one had a landscaping service manicure their lawn every week. Now if you don't have one you risk having your property taken away by the home owner's association.

How many potholes would simply not be fixed if we had to pay twice the cost? How many more dents in cars would go unfixed if the cost were quadrupled?

Question asked: Why do you think it's a lie that illegals fill jobs that Americans won't do?

Question answered: From what I've seen in the landscape and construction sectors illegals are used up without regard to protecting their health and often cheated out of their pay. These sectors work the young illegals beyond exhaustion.

I just don't see too many Americans lining up for this treatment.

And just why should Americans be lining up for that?

Now, excuse me for the speaking bluntly, but...

Those employers are beyond contempt but the illegals have been coming here in droves for years and have been advertising themselves as the cheapest whores on the block. Why does it surprise you that they are getting f___ed?

It's the opposite side of the "outsourcing" coin. Bottom line, we Americans are being sold out and betrayed.

So, do you think that illegals fill jobs that Americans won't do, as a freeper on this thread wrote? BTW, I agree that the employers are beyond contempt and wish so much that the feds, with strong leadership from the top, would crack down on hiring illegals. It is a very sad thing that so many young men come here to work, and do work very, very hard and then are cheated or otherwise taken advantage of. Of course there are many who come here to take advantage of our welfare benefits, etc. In the end we all pay dearly for the cheap labor.
