Father of Executed American Blasts Bush, Media
Reuters via Yahoo ^ | June 29, 2004 | Kate Holton

LONDON (Reuters) - The father of an American civilian beheaded in Iraq (news - web sites) accused President Bush (news - web sites) and the U.S. media Tuesday of ignoring the "horrible face of war."

"People like George Bush and (U.S. Defense Secretary) Donald Rumsfeld (news - web sites) don't see the pain that people have to bear -- they don't know what it feels like to have your guts ripped out," Michael Berg told a news conference.

The decapitated body of Berg's son Nick was found by a roadside in Baghdad and a grisly video of his beheading was posted on an Islamist Web site in May.

"What I'm trying to do is show to the American people and the British people ... that war has a wretchedly horrible face," said Berg's father.

The elder Berg was in London to speak at a demonstration against the foreign troop presence in Iraq Wednesday, which had been scheduled to coincide with the planned U.S. transfer of power to the Iraqi people.

Nick Berg, 26, traveled to Iraq several times looking for work in the reconstruction effort before going missing on April 9.

"He thought he was supporting the Iraqi people and the Bush administration by going over there, not with a gun but with his engineering tools," Michael Berg said.

Bush and the American media have ignored the "true horrors," added Berg senior, who has blamed Bush and Rumsfeld for his son's death in previous interviews. He said he believed anti-war sentiment was now very strong in the United States.

"There are 11,000 plus Iraqi citizens that are dead and each one's family is as affected as I was, but the American media doesn't cover these people. It doesn't cover the people who are suffering the most."

Nick Berg was one of dozens of foreigners kidnapped in early April as U.S. forces launched an offensive on the restive city of Falluja, west of Baghdad.

He was believed to have been beheaded by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, an al Qaeda supporter.

Since his death, militants have also beheaded U.S. hostage Paul Johnson in Saudi Arabia and South Korean Kim Sun-il in Iraq. All three men were videotaped wearing orange jump suits similar to those worn by prisoners in U.S. detention facilities like Guantanamo Bay.

"This is not a game that people in Washington get to play," Michael Berg said. "It affects people the way it's affected me and my family and the families of Paul Johnson, Kim Sun-il and the thousands of Iraqis."

"Observing someone's pain just makes you think just how can they (Bush and Blair) possibly do this. There isn't enough money in the world that could ever make this worthwhile."

>>Why would Michael Moore interview a struggling young apparent contractor when there were millions of Americans that he could have interviewed.

>>Michael is up to his eyebrows in relationships with those who killed his son and are now trying to blame the president.

>>Michael, you are a lunatic lefty and a POS as a father before and after your son's beheading by those Islamofascist Terrorists whom, you and Michael Moore support.

VERY good points!
The father, Michael Berg is certainly a lyin' P.O.S!

If he wants to clear up the stain on his name and his son's name,
then all he has to do is release the FULL 20 minutes of
of the M.Moore filmed 'interview' of Nick Berg.

"There's a special place in Hell for professional grievers like Michael Berg and the 'Jersey Girls' who use the death of their loved ones for politics."

Hell on earth, I think.

To maintain the rage, they are throwing everything that is postive in their lives away.Hatred such as theirs is ultimately lethal only to themselves. Nothing that either Berg or the Jersey Girls have to say, will influence anyone other than a DemocRAT - and they have gone to the devil already, haven't they?

I'm not clear why Berg doesn't Thank the terrorists who beheaded his son. Very few times in life do you get to measure the quality of your life so clearly. This man is a failure. He raised an idiot son and he shames himself in retaliation and his way of thinking.

He should write them a nice note, go to his garage and start the engine. It won't get any better for him.

Alia has an interesting tid bit here:

Which reminds me -- I've heard that both Nick Berg and Paul Johnson were from the same location in the US. And that "certain people" are looking for the very same man who recruited both. Anyone else hear of this?

"I'm not clear why Berg doesn't Thank the terrorists who beheaded his son."

Joe are you aware of this response by the Whacko Berg which is still on file at CNN:

Berg's Dad said that al Qaeda killed their best friend!

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/05/13/iraq.berg/
Other developments

Berg's father said Thursday his son was someone who simply wanted to "help people, not to hurt anyone." "He was not disrespectful of danger, he just didn't recognize danger in people," Michael Berg said. "The al Qaeda that killed my son didn't know what they were doing. They killed their best friend. Nick was there to build Iraq, not to tear it down."

You know, I'm getting sick and tired of these creep jerks who come slithering out of the woodwork and blame US and Bush because their son is killed by a bunch of low-life fanatics who are trying to destroy our nation.

Their actions would negate their children's sacrifice.

Bush made a big mistake by not getting a formal declaration of war against all Islamic terrorists so we could lock up creeps like this jerk.

This reminds me of the age old quip about the reporter sticking a microphone in the face of a bereaved parent and asking them how they feel about their dead child. You won't get a cogent quote in the first place, especially if you weren't cogent to begin with. The press just knows they can play this jerk every day spewing nonsense and nobody dares say anything in rebuttal because he's the one with the dead child. How many millitary parents are they interviewing that say their son or daughter died bravely for their nation and would sacrifice again if called upon? You think there might be one out there? Maybe even 2? This is the same crap I listened to during Viet Nam. It belittles the sacrifices made by so many for the ungratefull. Anybody that was wounded or died killing commies, anywhwhere, anytime, deserves our utmost honor. The same goes for these Islamonazi's.

This man might as well piss on his son's grave.

"This man might as well piss on his son's grave."

You're right about that. He's a traitor. If it were my son, I'd want to cut off the head of the first Islamofascist I saw - personally.

And you are correct about the media.

For the life of me, I simply can't understand WHY the conservatives in America have allowed all the mainstream media to be taken over by anti-American Bolshevics.

'..that war has a wretchedly horrible face..'

It was not 'WAR' that beheaded your son. It was a group of barbaric Jihadists Terrorists. The War in Iraq was just an excuse for their actions. In case you have not noticed, Americans and Christians have occasionally been beheaded around the world. There have been numerous accounts over just the past few decades. The alphabet soup networks however have not been reporting these crimes. For example, a volunteer worker was digging a ditch for a new Hospital on the Solomon Islands. He had been there working for free for a couple of months. One day a local native walked out of the woods and hacked this mans head off. It was not a 'War" that got this mans head cut off, it was ignorance and a hatred for outsiders from a native barbarian that had no clue as to the good hard work this volunteer was doing.

Ten years from now, the media will be trotting crazy Berg out in his wheelchair at the rest home for more Bush bashing. This has been going on for weeks and I don't expect it to ever stop.

All wars are horrible and Bergs son was there to promote his business, supposedly, perhaps even helping Michael Moore. God rest his soul.

Amen. I felt just awful when I heard about Nick Berg's horrendous death. But now ......

Michael Berg is a man with an agenda. An anti-war anti-Bush agenda. And he is using his son's death to promote that agenda. His son was (I heard) Pro-Bush and trying to help out in Iraq. (Yes, he was trying to make a buck, but that was his choice and his right as far as I can tell). For his father to use his son's death like this to promote his anti-war anti-Bush agenda is totally despicable. I am sick of hearing him complain. He should respect his son more than this. Just G-r-r-r-r .....

Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest. :^)

I realize this is a dumb question, but why hasn't more been made of this? I haven't been on the 'net for a long time and would never have known anything about it. I don't expect the Bush administration to go after this. No matter how fishy the story, they will just wind up looking petty. But, clearly, some group could demand release of that footage, couldn't it? Does the Freedom of Information Act apply?

No, the Freedom of Information Act does not apply to items held by a private individual. Now as evidence in a court case or a federal investigation, it could be subpoenaed by a prosecutor. But to do that, one must bring a case, and I don't know if there is enough evidence to do so.

I believe that long thread was sent to a couple of talk show people and perhaps Fox. It may still bubble up if the items that were cited on that thread can be verified. I do not expect responsible media to simply take the word of a bunch of posters on FR. A good reporter, such as Byron York or Bill Sammon, could find out this information independently. I am waiting to see, plus keeping an eye on Moore and Berg in the meantime.
