If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??
This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.
Please post ONLY ONCE, and ONLY IF YOU WOULD GO, so that we can easily see the tally by looking at the number of replies.
Been there, done that. Would do it again. Just don't send me to a Minuteman silo in Minot ND , like you tried to last time.
I would go also...43. I wish Bush had indeed called for volunteers after September 11th and layed out the plan of what we have to do to kill the Islamo Fascists.
Female...52...I'd do whatever I was assigned to do to help.
I see the butchery and barbaric and savage murders and I long to help the perps to allahland. These people just do not understand Americans at all. What they do does not make me tremble in fear so much as it spurs me to action. Yes, I am willing to sacrifice my life for this cause. Actually, we all may be called on to do just that. May as well be ready, folks.
No. I'm not good with authority and the military seems to involve a lot of BS that is extraneous to getting stuff done.
I remember reading a WW2 story about an 'over the hill' guy who became a payroll officer in the Marines. He was able to talk himself into a combat job and ended up commanding a battalion on Iwo Jima.
Oh, yea, my 57 yo dad would go back in a heartbeat. He is a retired CSM in the US Army.
At a minimum, us "broken" folks could at least run things stateside to let those in shape fight on the front line.
Ummmmmm...if I join up will you boost my morale?
Age 39, ready and willing to serve my country SIR!
So far in the War on Terror we've seen the politicians get squeamish on:
Civilian casualties (it happens, especially when terrorists/enemy hides among civilians)
Prisoners/Detainees
Interrogations
Rules of Engagement
Not destroying Mecca
Not destroying Fallujah
Coming up on 37.
Never served, but would consider it. I'm sure BT can fix any of my fitness "issues", and then some.
Damn straight I'd go!
If they'd slim me down to my old fightin' weight and I didn't have to run very far--you betcha.
I still meet the requirements to qualify for a Warrent Officer. Even at my current age.
Great answer, I wish you were around when I was in. I needed alot of morale boosting....
Age 25 - already in it. AD USAF
I'm 59 and I still have abilities I can offer the military by freeing up younger men. I can still fight but would probably be a liability on a routine mission. I have sought out employment in Iraq (etc) to help the effort but as of yet I have not been called.
I would go in a heart beat if given the opportunity.
If I go, I'm going to kill.
Been there, done that - got the Tshirt (literally). If I was single, I would consider it again but married life and TDY's do not mix well.
Since I was an Arabic translator that happened to fly, Saudi Arabia was often home.
Admiral: Awright, Drill. Grab your seabag and saddle up.
BtD: Oh, goody! Can I bring my inflatable seahorse?
Admiral: No.
BtD: Well, how about my Kerry flippers?
Admiral: I don't think so.
BtD: Abu Ghraib panty collection?
Admiral: Forget it.
BtD: My 'I was at Olongapo and all I got was this lousy T-shirt and the clap' t-shirt?
Admiral: I'm bringing mine. Good news, too - we're giving you command of a ship this time out.
BtD: Oh, gosh, that's cool!
Admiral: Yeah, it'll be at anchor, though. And it'll have concentric circles painted on the hull. Place called Bikini Atoll. You'll like it...
