WOULD YOU ENLIST TODAY, TO JOIN THE WAR ON TERROR, IF THE MILITARY WOULD HAVE YOU?
self | 6-29-2004 | self - vanity - poll

Posted on 06/29/2004 1:44:09 PM PDT by BagCamAddict

If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??

This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.

Please post ONLY ONCE, and ONLY IF YOU WOULD GO, so that we can easily see the tally by looking at the number of replies.

Just once could we have a thread without bashing SOMEBODY.......just once?

Would it be too much to ask?

Read this thread; this is about the best thread we've had on FR in a long time.......look at these wonderful people, ready to die for their country.

But you've got to talk it to death.

Female, age...almost 57. Firearms & law enforcement experience. Would go in a hot second.

Well, what better motivator to start that "get in shape" program.

Hold that thought. Got a grade-school youngun here whose heart is set on a career in the Navy.

As for me, they probably don't make a uniform small enough or an eye chart E big enough. :(

...ready to die for their country

To paraphrase Patton: "...ready to make the other guy die for his country"

My wife and I just sent in applications for logistics and analysts to the CIA at 36 and 37 respectively. We're on the cusp for the age thing, but I doubt they'll pick us (an archaeologist and business owner). We're too old to become operatives, unfortunately. The Army/Navy/Marines/Air Force wouldn't have me when I was a kid because of metal implants in my hip. But, if our shores need imminent protection, I'll be there with bells on as long as someone supplies me with ammo.

Just don't tell my wife.

You guys are more afraid of the wife than the terrorists?

"Only if I could be a Marine and put burlap sacks on terrorists heads."

Are you sure you don't want to opt for the panties instead of the burlap?

I would go in the Navy as a WO4 or as an O5 in a flash. I am capable of riding a ship and performing most shipboard duties. I think I would be more useful ashore though.

I particularly would volunteer as an enlisted man to ride a battleship if one were brought back into service.

Age, 67, retired USMC, would go in a heartbeat. Can't run as fast as I used to, but can still shoot straight. Semper Fi

In case you haven't noticed, the title of this thread is clearly a question. And the Freeper who posted it never said he only wanted to hear "yes" answers on this thread.

Just once could we have a thread without bashing SOMEBODY.......just once?

As is usually the case, the first one who bashed somebody on this thread was YOU.

I'd re-enlist in a second if they'd have me.

One day they'll be enlisting people to watch the feed from military surveillance craft. There's a big change in the military coming.

I bet my 11-year old nephew could remote-control an armed Predator better than anyone in the military. What this kid can do with a joystick is amazing.

Age 42, was turned down by all four Branches in 1980 after scoring a 96 on the ASVAP (I had a retinal detachment in 1976).

I'd go in a minute today, if they would have me. I am sure that my wife and two kids would understand and support that decision.

I am pretty sure that most of my family and my in-laws would think I was nuts. I figure that every Islamic that gets capped now is one less that my kids and my grandkids will have to cap later. Most of my relatives have'nt figured out yet that there is'nt room on this planet for Western Civilization and Islam. Its either them or us. We did'nt make that choice, they did. It's what their religion tells them is their duty to bring about.

I've read their book. It is one scary piece of fiction.
