The Democrats who know him best are sabotaging Dick Gephardt's chances of being Sen. John Kerry's running mate.
Eight of 11 county chairmen selected at random by the Associated Press in Gephardt's home state of Missouri preferred Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina. Only two chose the former House minority leader.
But is a freshman senator with few accomplishments really superior to Geppy's centuries of experience just because of a pretty face, fancy hair and excellent dentistry? Apparently yes.
"Edwards is the exciting one," said St. Charles County party chairman Joe Koester.
"Gephardt just doesn't have the get-up-and-go that Edwards has," said Irma Brannum, party chairman in Butler County.
"That John Edwards is a fresh face and exciting," said Charles Christy, longtime party boss in Boone County.
"The person I like best and I hear the most buzz about for V.P. in our area is John Edwards," said Lawrence County party chairman Jim Kabell.
AP reported, "Democrats outside St. Louis were indifferent about Gephardt and, in candid moments, slightly resentful."
For example, he attended the party's annual bash in 1988 during his first fizzled bid for the presidential nomination. Then he failed to attend again until this year - during his second flop of a run.
"To a certain extent we do feel forgotten by Gephardt unless he needs us," said Daryl Boulware, Democrat chairman in Clark County. "We are rural folks, and sometimes we do feel neglected."
Begging, that's all the Democrats are good for.
Imagine the veep debate!
But would Kerry make such a blunder?
I believe he would. I wouldn't be the first time.
I believe he would. It wouldn't be the first time.
I have no idea who. I can just see it happening.
"Imagine the veep debate!"
I just did. LOL.
Thats what I think too - not necessarily a woman but someone the dems haven't even thought of.
I am thinking along the same lines. It is almost impossible for a Washington insider to get elected let alone two of them on the same ticket.
Edwards would be an easy target too. All you would have to do is dig around and find a bunch of scum bags he represented as a lawyer. All kinds of room to find contradictions, conflicts of interest and general sleeze.
LOL! That's a color photo of Gephardt, isn't it?

Its like being in the high school girls locker room, as the cheerleaders debate who should be voted prom king.
(sorry, I dont have any pictures to link to this post)
Edwards would be the democrats' Dan Quail. Everything they accused Quail of could be thrown right back at them...especially given the stature of Cheney (who is no Lord Benson).
Kerry is seriously dissing Edwards by not having selected him already, especially with so many people asking for Edwards so vocally, and with no other obvious choice at hand. The protracted delay reveals Kerry as someone who can't make a decision. At this point, even if Kerry does select Edwards it will seem a reluctant choice. Gephardt showed in the primaries that he has very little ability to garner votes. OTOH, if Kerry goes around Edwards to select some lesser light from the wings of the Democratic party, it will seriously disappoint many potential voters and party donors. In short, Kerry has botched this process badly.
snicker..
A good reason that Kerry would prefer Gephardt.
Historically, what has been the time frame that a running mate is announced prior to the convention?
Don't write Edwards off as just an ambulance chaser. It it was easy to make a couple of hundred million as an ambulance chaser a lot more folks would do it. It takes intelligence, drive, organizational ability and (at least superficially) a winning personality. It also takes contempt for truth, justice and anything else that stands between you and a payday. Edwards doesn't wear well over time -- that's why he is not running for a second term, but he made fortune on his ability to con, err, persuade folks to believe in him in the short term. That makes him dangerous between the Democrat convention and election day.
I knew Lord Benson. Lord Benson was a friend of mine. And Lord Benson was no Lloyd Bentsen.
