Did anyone tune in to "Hannity and Colmes" tonight on Fox? There was a black minister, Rev. Wayne Perryman, who authored the book "Unfounded Loyalty" in which he reports how historically, the Republican Party has been the party of and for the advancement of black people.
He absolutely tears ups the Dems for taking the black vote for granted for decades. He brought out such interesting points as how the Ku Klux Klan was the "arm" of the Democratic Party at one time to oppress the black vote; how since it's inception 212 years ago, the Democratic Party has been a vicious oppressor of black Americans until they needed their votes in the recent past three decades.
I know that Kennedy and Johnson pushed through the Civil Rights Act in the '60s but I also remember, growing up in the South, that it was Southern Democrat Politicians who relegated black people using separate public restrooms and water foutains. It was progressive Republicans who fought for equal rights for black Americans.
I'm convinced that if this book could be gotten into the hands of a significant number of African-Americans before election day, The Prez would get about same 30+ percent of the black vote that he received when he ran for reelection as Governor of Texas.
I'd buy the book and pass it on, but the only "blacks" I know are Republicans. Says something about the people I hang out with.
I agree. I've been saying that for years!
It's absolutely amazing that the dems have had such a strong hold on the black vote all these years.
I almost fell out of my chair when I heard this guy. He savaged the dimocRATs. Said that he wanted reparations, not from Republicans, but from dimocRATs because they, collectively, as a party held down and suppressed black people. Perrymen mentioned that it has always been the Republican party that proposed and passed legislation favorable to black folks and that the dims were always the party that oppressed them.
He said that he'd always voted for dims, but when asked by kids in his church about the difference between the dims and Republicans, the scales fell from his eyes (my take on this) and he wrote the book, "Unfettered Loyalty".
Mind boggling! I bet he'll be making the talk show rounds soon. It'll be interesting to watch.
I have a feeling that the first minority president will be a republican. I could be wrong...
Not a whit different from the Jewish vote.
Allen Colmes just wanted to talk about blacks being disenfranchised in Florida in 2000. Rev. Perryman said: "How dare you compare one incident in one election to 212 years of black repression by the Democratic Party."
YOU GO REV. !!!!!!!!
All of the people I know who have benefitted blacks in a substantial way (e.g., 300 4-year college scholarships, health care, housing etc., etc.) are white Presbyterian Republicans. Others talk about it but, where the rubber meets the road, they are missing in action.
Colmes was sputtering!
"It's absolutely amazing that the dems have had such a strong hold on the black vote all these years."
The Democratic Party to some Blacks is like getting a free hit of heroin. It feels good and suddenly you are addicted. In this case, it is an addition to handouts, and programs that do nothing but keep a person down.
He asked Alan how he could compare 212 years of consistent DemocRAT racism to one election year.
Of course Alan Colmes continued to stand obvliviously in left field yelling, "Hey, batter, batter, batter...."
Roosevelt started to capture the black vote in the 40s. The Kennedy brothers caught the black imagination with the George Wallace photo ops. The real work was done by the Republican congress, which wrote and passed the Civil Rights act.
Not that it means anything to the public now.
Bush will get 35+% of the Jewish vote this time I predict. Got 19% last time.
Oops. "Unfettered" = "Unfounded".
Good point regarding the jewish vote. Whats with THAT!
