First NZ Light Armoured Vehicle Platoon Rolls Out
Scoop ^ | 28 June 2004

The first NZLAV platoon has now completed its extensive training and officially rolled out in a mounted parade at 1330 hours in Waiouru today.

The 45 crewmen, including drivers, gunners and commanders, trained with the Transition Training Team (TTT) for 17 weeks in Waiouru.

Major Mike Duncan of the TTT said, "I am very pleased with the way in that all the soldiers assimilated all the training and I'm very happy with the high standard of the crews."

The roll out brings an end to the individual component of the NZLAV crews training where they learnt all they needed to effectively operate the state-of-the-art vehicles.

In July the crewmen will deploy to Australia to take part in the combined exercise with the Australian Army, Exercise Predators Gallop. It will be their first collective training experience.

18 NZLAVs have already been deployed via sea to Australia in preparation for the exercise.

,,, Waiouru training ground is below Lake Taupo, near the centre of New Zealand's North Island (around the area labelled "Mt Ruapehu").

They're going to war with Australia.

And we're going to kick their Kiwi arses right back across the Tasman, so they better hope those LAVs at least float... :-)

And where do the air force do their training? Oh, that's right, effectively you don't HAVE one anymore... ;-P

With all due respect Major Duncan, we have an even more excellent course of
"on the job training" available.

The Coalition of The Willing is still open for applicants!

,,, with the rapidly rising $NZ and the way QANTAS is pricing tickets to Australia to make sure Kiwis go there, floating is a romantic notion left to people like you to suggest on threads like these. [LOL]

Speaking of floating, are there any Afghan detainees left on Christmas Island or are they all employed as home help in Double Bay now? I know your employment figures are really looking great... just asking... hehehe

You can laugh. But we've got the planes.

And our dollar's still worth more than yours.

And the only reason New Zealand doesn't get an influx of so-called refugees is because it's too damn far from anywhere, and you know it.

I don't know... ARE the Afghans working in Double Bay? You're the one who's just been to Sydney, mate, not me.
