Open source has expanded into the political world, with open software powering the online operations of the Democratic National Committee and Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign.
The DNC has embraced open source to run its online operation, including outreach and fund raising, and has been working on this front since 2001 with New York-based consultant Plus Three LP.
This week, the DNC will launch, at www.democrats.org, the third version of its Web site, which is designed to mobilize voters on a national and grass-roots level, grow the party's online database, and raise funds, said David Brunton, Plus Three's vice president and co-founder.
Plus Three's Arcos technology, a business application suite based on the open-source LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and Perl) platform, lies at the core of the Democrats' online technology infrastructure, dubbed Demzilla by the DNC.

What if you use both? Commies hate gays and like to put them in jail. What will you do?
For a programmer, the benefit derived from OSS is programmer man-hours instead of cash. A commercial house may license-out code to someone else to use as a base to build something better, and it does so usually by getting money in return. A programmer may license out software under the GPL for someone else to use as a base to build something better, but receives compensation by getting a better program back in return.
Good Lord, man! You actually came back to this debacle?

MSNBC: MicroSoft Now Backing Chinese
You can now go about blaming linux....
Changhong would receive advanced IT technology and software from Microsoft to develop digital TV sets and other high-technology products, officials from the Chinese company were quoted as saying.
Nonsense. Some are miserably insane.
Someone on another thread claimed that M$ IE was "a sewerpipe to your hard drive" - LOL.
You can prove to us how insecure OSS is and shutdown the 'rats website at the same time.
Go 4 it, man.
Good point.
AFAIK, only one has a principal who is actively working for Kerry (and we all know who that is). Now THAT's stupid.
I've been using that term with newbies and laymen. I read it on FR too, and it really gets the point across.
"We do three kinds of work for the DNC," Brunton said. "The first is customized, technical work on a fixed-price basis. The second type of work is regular maintenance for a monthly fee, while the last kind of work done is a retainer for managing the DNC's online advertising and e-mail enhancements."
If the 'dims (And the rest of us) were smart we'd only have to go to Thailand to save quite a few bucks. Turns out the M$ doesn't want to help the US though. Remember their headquarters (at least for the moment) is in mond.
Coincidence comrade? I think not.
I'd heard talk; but, hadn't been aware they were going full bore. Servers, desktops, the works. They had enough of all the virus attacks and are shedding ms crap completely. lol.
They've been playing with it for years, but I think that announcement marks their big push.
Democrats use both sides exclusively at the same time. Nothing here move on. Rats lie. If they think it will get them a vote, they are doing it.
Make jokes about communists and socialists all you like. It only shows what misguided fools you are, standing arm in arm with them while they outlaw America's software businesses. Not only worldwide, where it's well under way, and they rename Red Hat Linux to "Chinese Red Flag", but right here in the states, starting in liberal bastions like California and Massachusetts.

These links may be insane, but I'm certainly not insane for pointing them out.

That's just some of what's going on right here in the US. Worldwide, do you agree with US software improvements being given away to the rest of the world for free? How about a specific example, where "Red Hat" is legally renamed to "Red Flag", and used by the Chinese to build supercomputers without a dime back to the US? They did very recently just crack the top ten for the first time in supercomputers using Linux, BTW.
The jokesters on this thread don't want to talk about those issues, so I'm just making sure you're aware of them.
So Microsoft is helping build color TV's in China. Really, I didn't know you could build nuclear weapon systems with TV's like you can with free copies of Red Hat Linux? Didn't China just crack the top 10 supercomputers for the first time with their free copy of Red Hat? Do you not see the difference between top 10 supercomputers and color TV's with regard to the potential impact to the US?
