Democrats Tap Open Source (Linux)

Open source has expanded into the political world, with open software powering the online operations of the Democratic National Committee and Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign.

The DNC has embraced open source to run its online operation, including outreach and fund raising, and has been working on this front since 2001 with New York-based consultant Plus Three LP.

This week, the DNC will launch, at www.democrats.org, the third version of its Web site, which is designed to mobilize voters on a national and grass-roots level, grow the party's online database, and raise funds, said David Brunton, Plus Three's vice president and co-founder.

Plus Three's Arcos technology, a business application suite based on the open-source LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and Perl) platform, lies at the core of the Democrats' online technology infrastructure, dubbed Demzilla by the DNC.

This will be hilarious watching the denials, just like we've seen the endless denials that worldwide socialists are working to pass laws requiring the use of open source products over their original American counterparts. You can find out more about that here

Don't shoot me, I'm only the messenger!

Open source operating systems and software are there to be used by anyone, even people whom you may philosophically disagree with.

(BTW, Free Republic uses open source software, too...)

Free Republic doesn't push it on people though, like the worldwide socialists are.

If you use open source, then you are in alliance with the Democrats!

GPL code is what I have a problem with, not normal public domain which is actually 'truly free', and preceedes the 'disguised as free' licenses by Richard Stallman.

I'm not even going to argue with that ridiculous canard, but even so, it has nothing to do with this article, which says that the DNC and Kerry campaigns are using it for their own internal purposes.

Stick your head back in the sand, then.

I'd rather see you extract yours from wherever you have it stored so that you can explain how a private organization's adoption of open source software is part of a nefarious plot to have jackbooted soldiers breaking into people's houses to forcibly install Linux on people's PCs.

Well, either you're closing your eyes
To a situation you do now wish to acknowledge
Or you are not aware of the caliber of disaster indicated
By the presence of open source software on your computer...

I say, first, medicinal wine from a teaspoon,
Then beer from a bottle.
An' the next thing ya know,
Your son is playin' for money
In a pinch-back suit.
And list'nin to some big out-a-town Jasper
Hearin' him tell about horse-race gamblin'.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no!
But a race where they set down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey'boy
Sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil?
Well, I should say.

LOL, I sure do hope you missed that sarcasm tag, because if you haven't you might want to explain why you frequent forums that, in your own words "are in alliance with the Democrats" :) MS platforms for webservers are about the worst thing going.
