Searched, but could not find this already posted. There are some statistical issues. It is hard to prove exactly what the population would be in the absence of Roe (maybe people who had abortions would not have had other children later if they had given birth to the aborted child), but I like the use of statistics to show what may be tilting the populace toward the Republican side.

I've always argued that demographics run in our favor because conservatives carry to term.

The same logic applies to other levels as well...european people, including their colonial offspring, are being bred into insignificance. America's population growth is almost entirely due to minorities and immigrants.

Abortion and the fact that they most of them despise anyone with more than one child, if any. I asked my sister-in-law if she realized that her four children were using up more than their share of the Democrats resources and she said they had best shut up because it will be her kids paying their Social Security.

Cold Hearted View

My Cold Hearted View of abortion says that it is really a self curing problem. In time, the problem will go away by itself. Those women who don’t have the time and don't want to take the trouble to raise a child have an abortion. They are removing their genes from the gene pool. As time passes, only mothers who want children and are willing to take care of them will remain in the population. Therefore, slowly, the defective genes are being systematically removed from the gene pool.

As a sidebar, Rush was talking on his radio program awhile back that there have been about about 40 million abortions since Roe v Wade. That makes me wonder: Could it be that the Liberals have also aborted themselves out of power? If only a small majority of the 40 million who were aborted were now alive and voting as Liberals, the Democrats would be in control of the US Presidency, the House, and the Senate!

From my Gun Rights & Politics Page. Written in 2001.

My homeschool group votes at almost 100% rate, and votes almost 100% Conservative. (The ones that don't vote Republican usually vote Constitution party) They also regard children as blessings, with several families of 7 or 8 kids. Small families are the exception.

Many families are politically active, with the kids canvassing neighborhoods and holding signs.

We are the Democrats worst nightmare.

Interesting concept but it does not take into account the fact that the NEA and other organizations already have care, custody, and control of public school children.

They don't need their own children, they have "yours".

This is sort of a fallacious argument, because it fails to take into account what the political landscape would be like if abortion were still illegal. For example, a lot of formerly Democratic evangelicals now vote Republican because they loathe abortion. If abortion were still illegal, would they have any reason to vote GOP?

It also assumes that "Democrat" and "Republican" are qualities that are passed on like ethnicity, when we all know a family's party ID can change from one generation to the next.

It would be ironic if being pro abortion is a genetic trait

I drove into Montpelier this morning, and got behind what looked like a pair of diesel dykes with a bumper sticker that read: "It's easier to change a condom than a diaper."

I couldn't help thinking, what a cold-hearted, empty, selfish life would result from such an attitude.

Back during college years (90-97) I had several intense debates and discussions with some very intelligent, even-keeled liberal/pro-choice students and scholars. I remember making the point of this article as a hypothesis, that eventually, the democratic party would suffer a loss of votes from the pro-choice movement because, as I assumed at that time, democrats were, as a group, more immoral than conservatives, and thus likely had more abortions, and thus eventually less party members.

I left the hypothesis at that point, because I couldn't really think of a way to prove/link the relative morality of democrats/republicans, or the link to abortion due to privacy rights and unreliability of polls when it comes to something so intensely personal as abortion.

I think that this article has just touched on one of the most important issues facing our nation.
