I hope for PJ's sake this book is better than "CEO of the Sofa". It was an awful read.

Peace Kills is more or less a collection of essays he already wrote. (I remember reading the chapter on Egypt months before the book came out). All in all, I wasn't too impressed with Peace Kills and I had been eagerly anticipating its June release since March.

I've already read it. Much better than "CEO of the Sofa". It's more along the lines of "All the Trouble in the World", though it's not quite as good as that book.

I liked his depiction of fascism "a mob with a job"

Watching him on CSPAN now. I'm underwhelmed.

When did he become such a whiner?

He was on Hannity and Colmes the other night too. Unfortuantely, he has a face for radio and a voice for print.

It's a shame. His earlier stuff was laugh out loud funny with some keen insight thrown in.

I believe it was one of his books where I first read the brilliant point that famine was a problem with govenment, not food; to wit, there has never been a famine in a democratic country.

Most creative people seem to to their best work early in their lives. PJ's funniest stuff, by far, was the articles he wrote for National Lampoon back in the early 70's.

"A PARLIAMENT OF WHORES" is a MUST READ for all Freepers- it is not only full of ammunition against idiot liberals, but it is also fall-on-the-floor laughing funny.

I disagree. It was so good I read it twice. (I now know better than to read his books on public transport or on aircraft though, as my frequent sniggering tends to un-nerve my fellow passengers...)

I liked his article "Driving in the third world". "On what side of the road do they drive? That's simple. The side that you're on." - or something like that, I forget the exact quote...

I loved the comment (in the book) about how the French serve a valuable purpose: as the butt end of the moral compass. He also observes that a "world government" might include a French Surgeon General warning of the dangers of overuse of soap. >:)
