Vice President Dick Cheney says he has no regrets about cursing Sen. Patrick "Leaky" Leahy.
"I felt better after I said it," Cheney told Fox News Channel today. "A lot of my colleagues felt what I said badly needed to be said."
The vice president sidestepped Neil Cavuto's questions about whether he had used the word all the media say he did (a word the FCC deems a naughty and costly expletive if uttered on radio or TV). Cheney said that was not the sort of language he usually used.
Cavuto asked Cheney if he had cursed at Leahy. "Probably," the veep replied.
'We Don't Play Games'
Meanwhile, the Washington Post today defended its decision to spell out the vulgar term rather than use such euphemisms as "the F word."
Executive Editor Leonard Downie stated, "When the vice president of the United States says it to a senator in the way in which he did on the Senate floor, readers need to judge for themselves what the word is because we don't play games at The Washington Post and use dashes."
But what about all those "expletive deleteds" in the Watergate stories?
And how come the Post didn't report Hillary Clinton's attack on former campaign aide Paul Fray, whom she called a "f--king Jew bastard"?

Media Bias
Right and thank God, Mr. Cheney is being honest.
What a joke. leahy challenging Mr. Cheney's integrity? What about leahy's leaking classified information to the press. leahy should be prosecuted under the espionage laws. He shouldn't be above the law.
All that doesn't change my opinion.
Because I am a lady and a Christian and I have standards of decency by which I hope our leaders will conduct themselves. Just as I was glad that my teachers could not swear and curse and carry on in the course of their duties, I would like the same civility from our nation's leaders. From what I've heard, Mr. Cheney professes to believe in Christ. Anger and strife breed anger and strife.
This boils down to a simple issue of losing one's temper when provoked, and being pulled offsides into the gutter with the likes of Leahy. It's not honorable. It's not cute. It's not praiseworthy in God's eyes. It sets a bad example for anyone who hears of it. Next time, if there is a next time, will he blow up at a foreign leader whose support is crucial to America's goals? That's why.
As I recall, about 54% (bad for a Democrat), except for the one Hasidic (sp?) village where she sold one of Bill's pardons, where she got 100% of the vote. Tit for tat -- the Clinton way.

I wasn't hoping to change your mind.
As in (or similar to) the money changers at the temple? K. I'll give the veep the benefit of the doubt. Don't quote me scripture on this. You will lose.

Right. Just like overturning the tables at the temple.
Maybe not. Sometimes anger is righteous and approved.
/john
Yes! Leahy is a major league ******. He had it coming. Cheney is my hero!
Not a competent parallel.
When Jesus was falsely accused by His countrymen, and the way He responded, now, that's a competent parallel.

You are one of the first on this post I agree with. I know a lot of folks are going "Ya, finally we tell 'em like it is," but in the long run it's gonna hurt Cheney. This may even be a setup by Bush to have Cheney say something dumb to embarrass himself. Then Bush has an excuse to dump him at the convention.
/john
If anyone set up Cheney,it was Leaky Lahey and NOT President Bush, who is NOT going to dump Cheney any more than Hillary is going to push Kerry aside and run against President Bush. You tinfoilers need new material and more tinfoil. :-)
LOL...you're dreaming.
W is a genuine born again Christian moderate who leans more right than his daddy ever did and guess what?
They both curse....bullshite being a favorite.
As did every President in my 46 years sans maybe the hopeless Potus without a clue Carter.
The only difference with Cheney is that the media has trumpeted it. In the past, they'd have ignored it.
Last but important....Patsy Leahy is one of the least liked members from what I'm told.
The Bushes prize loyalty very highly and Cheney is as loyal as they come. No way does W can Cheney...it would be an awful political move...he ain't Lott.
You haven't figured it out yet. You CAN'T hurt the VP. Nothing can.
He's fully aware of his mortality. He's had heart attacks. He's working for a righteous cause. God Bless him.
/john
Howdy...right behind ya.
and I'm right behind you...
Yep...dumping Cheney unless Cheney truly wished to drop out for good reason would be about as smart as W pissing on the Lincoln memorial.
Cheney is a VP's VP. A real all around field marshall. It takes a very strong and confident POTUS to choose someone so capable without feeling threatened.
* I would fear debating Cheney...steel trap. He made folksy Leiberman look foolish.
