U.S. Destroys Another Terrorist Safe House in Fallujah

WASHINGTON, June 25, 2004 – U.S. planes today obliterated a building in southeastern Fallujah that was known to be a gathering place for terrorists in Iraq.

The air strike "employed precision weapons to target and destroy the safe house," according to a statement issued today by Army Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, deputy director for coalition operations, Multinational Force Iraq.

The attack is the third in recent days to target buildings in Fallujah frequented by operatives working for fugitive Jordanian terrorist Abu Musab al- Zarqawi.

Zarqawi's network, which has ties with al Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the June 24 wave of attacks across Iraq that hit coalition and Iraqi security forces and facilities. The attacks killed about 100 people, including three U.S. troops, and injured more than 300, including 12 Americans.

In those attacks, insurgents struck targets in Mosul, Baqubah, Ramadi, Fallujah and Baghdad. Kimmitt declared in his statement that coalition troops would work with Iraqi security forces "to defeat and destroy terrorist networks within Iraq."

And, "wherever and whenever we find elements of the Zarqawi network, we will attack them," Kimmitt pledged.

Today's air strike, the general noted in his statement, was "based on multiple confirmations of Iraqi and coalition intelligence."

U.S. and coalition authorities predicted insurgent violence would likely escalate before and after the June 30 transfer of sovereignty to an interim Iraq government.

In other news, Iraqi police early today detained three people suspected of attacking the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan headquarters near Tuz, according to a Coalition Press Information Center news release. Four people were seen inside the vehicle used in the attack, but one escaped capture. Iraqi police are investigating.

In Ramadi, Iraqi troops fought off insurgents during the June 24 attacks, according to another CPIC release. After insurgents blew up a Ramadi police station, Iraqi security forces arrived and successfully repelled additional assaults. U.S. Marines were quickly deployed to back up Iraqi troops engaged at several city locations.

Iraqi security forces' actions "have restored calm in Ramadi," according to the release. About five Iraqi security troops were killed and eight were wounded in the Ramadi action, the release said. No Marine casualties were reported.

Even if the military misses they hit. Every unannounced obliteration of suspected safehouses along with their occupants means more of the remaining potential safehouses will refuse Zaqawi safe housing. It's how you kill a rat's den or cause it to move. By making the very presence of the head rat poisonous for the other rats. Everytime the head rate comes around rats die. Time to move or deny entry to the bad rat.

This is a great news release.

I only wish to piggyback on this to add my pet comment of late:

We all must start using the word that best describes these terrorists:

BARBARIANS

Everyone must become familiar with this old concept, and realize it is now here and new again.

Barbarians brought down Rome.

Now, barbarians are at our gates.

They have been in existence since the dawn of man.

They now use our technological advances and our moral sensitivities to their own advantage.

This is the reason the Crusades happened.

It is high time Americans and the rest of the world understand this.

Our "thin veneer of civilization" will disappear if these barbarians are allowed to dictate on the world stage. For us to keep that from happening, we must steel ourselves to accept that we must be ready and willing if necessary to do what they did in The Crusades: "Kill them all and let God sort them out" with great apologies to those relatively powerless non-terrorists who live in their midst.

The Geneva Conventions do not apply here, much as any treaty never applies to those who have not signed that treaty or carried out its dictates. We must demand an immediate end to that discussion. We must also learn to accept that we must kill some who may not have been involved in the terrorism to get those who are... in fact, we may have to kill a lot of innocents.

If we lose here, we face a return to a city-state or even lesser civilization.

The Middle Ages, and even the Dark Ages await us if we lose.

If we lose this war, we (including France) lose civilization.

LOL!

US soldier to Iraqi: "Hey, look over there--a cat on fire!"

US soldier whispering to radio: "[etc., etc.] Fire. Lose more rounds."

Pilot: "Oops! I slipped and lost more rounds!"
