From the Reagan Library... and a couple related notes
Reagan Library ^ | 23 Jun 2004 | R. Duke Blackwood - Executive Director

Dear Friend,

Over the last two weeks, we have received an incredible outpouring from American citizens, young and old alike, expressing their sympathies to Mrs. Reagan and offering condolences to all of us at the Library. We are deeply grateful for your concern, for your kindness, and for your willingness to grieve with us as we mourn the loss of our beloved 40th President, Ronald Wilson Reagan.

I would like to take this opportunity to respond to the thousands of requests for a DVD, Video, Book or CD produced from the ceremonies beginning on June 5th, 2004 through June 11th, 2004. There is an enormous demand for this type of product and we are actively working to produce it in cooperation with Merv Griffin Productions. Unfortunately, a number of other products have already appeared on the market, which are unlicensed by the Reagan Library Foundation. In fact, one CD actually claims to be giving benefits to the Foundation, yet we have never spoken nor heard from the producer of this CD. Please be aware that all our officially licensed products will be featured on our website, www.reaganlibrary.com and in our catalog. We ask you to be cautious as you purchase items from other sources who claim to donate funds to the Reagan Library. And, we remind you that by purchasing from the website, www.reaganlibrary.com, you can be sure that you are supporting officially licensed merchandisers of Reagan products.

Again, for a list of the corporations who are official licensees of our products, please visit our website, www.reaganlibrary.com. These are entities who have graciously worked with us to develop their products and offer royalties to the Library for the rights to use the Reagan name. As such, we offer our support and encourage our members to patronize their organizations.

Within the next couple of weeks, we hope to have a CD of the music from the ceremonies available for purchase on the website. We will send an e-mail notification to you, to alert you to its availability. In the meantime, we have two memorial tribute photographic pieces on the website which are available for purchase by clicking on Library site and then Museum Store.

Each day, it is our goal to update our website with the most current information. On June 16th, we included a photo montage of over 90 photographs by former White House Photographer Pete Souza who served as the official photographer for Mrs. Reagan. We invite you to review these moving images at www.reaganlibrary.com, just click on “View Images from President Ronald Reagan’s Funeral.” Also, the text of the speeches delivered by Michael Reagan, Patti Davis, and Ronald Prescott Reagan are available for your review, by clicking on Funeral Services. Their names will appear on the next page.

Thank you for your sympathy, your patience, and your support. May we continue to be blessed with your friendship as we work to preserve the legacy of President Ronald Reagan.

Warm regards,

R. Duke Blackwood Executive Director (805) 522-2977 http://www.reaganlibrary.com

I received this email and thought to pass it along as it contains information on various products the Reagan Library will offer commemorating the funeral services for President Reagan. It also mentions some unlicensed products on the market that are not authorized. Buyer beware.

On a related note... I've two suggestions for ways to memorialize President Reagan. First, the issue of currency and coinage. Do something new. It is well known coins outlast paper money. Mint a twenty dollar coin with President Reagan's image. The current $20 bill is the most used paper currency after the dollar bill. It would get wide use unlike dollar coins.

Next, forget about altering Mount Rushmore. That's a finished work. Get a mountain in central California, President Regan's favorite area, and carve the outline of a city in either the southern or western face, and coat it to glisten under the sun. More then once President Reagan made mention to the shining city on the hill, in reference to our country. Maybe even include a statue of President Reagan tipping his hat as he strides into the glistening city. People will visit, just as people visited Mount Rushmore once it was completed.

Thanks for the info. My wife and I plan to visit the library within the year.

I completely agree with you on the memorials. A lot of well-meaning folks want to change existing coins, bills, or memorials, but I think that would just set a precedent where some other generation will feel free to honor their "guy" by erasing the last generation's heroes. Could you imagine Slick Willie's mug on the $1 bill?!

Cool! I'd love to have that CD just for Ronan Tynan's singing of Ave Maria at the funeral if it's on there.

Love to have this. That rendition of "Mansions of the Lord" was incredible.

Strangely, the email you've posted gives the incorrect URL for the Reagan Library website.

Here's the correct one: www.reaganlibrary.net

If you loved "Mansions of the Lord", be sure and go to the website for the library.

Click on the link for images from the funerals. You will see a very beautiful slide show accompanied by that song.

Bring tissues.

I checked the international ownership base with ICANN at whois.net. The dot com for the Reagan Library is the real address. The dot net listing for the Reagan Library is owned by someone named R. F. Hobbs. No further information was provided for this individual. He's probably one of the unauthorized, unlicensed peddlers of Reagan items. Here's the listing on ownership of the reaganlibrary.com:

Just visited. Still blubbering. My, it sure hurts to know he's no longer with us. But it's so sweet to know he's with Jesus.

That's lovely. I took me awhile to stop crying also.

Thanks so much for straightening that out. The first time I tried the .com link, it didn't display.

And seeing those $1 bills stuffed into the G-strings of thousands of strippers across the Fruited Plain? Oh yes, I can picture it. I think it would be a fitting tribute.
