The Michael Moore documentary, which opens tomorrow, arranges a set of facts - or almost facts - directed against George W. Bush and sets them out for the jury, the American people. But the irony might be that while Moore seeks to "convict" Bush - that is, defeat him at the polls - the unintended consequence might be to "acquit" Bush instead.

That would be wonderful.
IMHO the democrats are getting dangerously close to becoming domestic enemies
I can see Moore jumping up, waving his arms at the audience and saying, "No! No!! That's not what's supposed to happen!!!"
I think this is somewhat wishful thinking. Pinkerton is one of the few people working at Newsday who was critical of clinton, therefore not a kneejerk liberal. If liberals vote for Nader, it will be because Kerry turns them off. But they are so set on defeating Bush that even the most liberal will probably hold his nose and vote for Kerry, since Nader clearly can't win.
Also, we need to remember that the only folks that will go to see "big lie" are folks who already hate Bush. The VAST bulk of the voting public would not pay to watch this film, democrate or republican. The only way to get them to watch would to be to fill it with sex or action special effects - or maybe professional sports!
God willing, if President Bush is reelected, then it will be time to do something about MM. In my opinion he is a seditious scumbag. I think it might be time to revisit laws on what constitutes treason.
Has anyone informed Moore of Kerry's newfound friend, Lee Iococa?
Actually I think they crossed that line some time ago.
1) It could energize young people to register and vote for Querry;
2) It could push moderates to the right;
3) It could convince moderate democrats that their party has completely gone off the edge.
I think to some extent all three will happen (along with Querry voters going for Nader), but in the end you have to ask yourself this: if you got a political flyer in the mail making all the assertions that f911 does in the same breathless, hysterical manner, would you take it seriously?
mmmmmmmm Boiled Democrats..... < /Homer Simpson>
"IMHO the democrats are getting dangerously close to becoming domestic enemies."
You might want to add that Democrats/Libs who put stock in what Moore says fail to realize that Islamofasists want to blow them up. They are in deep denial if they think the opposite is so.
I wonder if the frog in hot water works on rats....?
Any FReeper biologists out there can tell us....?
Does a rat swim around in a pail of water placed on a stove until it's cooked ...or does it jump out..........?
LOL!
Seriously, the only thing I see Moore doing is laughing all the way to the bank. Remember, first and foremost Moore's a capitalist. Don't let the socialist veneer fool you; he only does it because that's where the money is. How many right-wing conspiracy theorists are multi-millionaires? That's right--none. If you want to capitalize on wartime paranoia, the left is the place to be. Do you think Cannes and H.Wood would celebrate Art Bell? Of course not, but give them some red meat on Public Enemy #1, GW Bush, and they'll sell their first-born to finance a smear job. Finally, I don't think Moore wants Bush to lose--he'd lose his meal ticket.
All Republicans should aggressively push this
story on their moderate friends, including any
liberal with a conscience. It can always be used
to demoralize our adversaries and create more doubts
in the minds of the undecideds and weak Democrats.
We can never assume that people will just "get it."
They'll get it with our help. Certainly not with the
media's.
Just one more bag of donuts should do the trick. The worst thing I can think of is his bathroom commode.
Perhaps. I've actually been pondering lately that Nader may not really take many votes from Kerry. I'm beginning to think that the "disaffected" (or naive) voters that would come out and vote for Nader are only likely to vote because he's on the ticket and were he not there, wouldn't probably vote at all.
Of the many Kerry voters that I know, they're simply in the Hate Bush camp. They will vote for Kerry even if there is video footage of him personnaly running down an old lady in a crosswalk. They hate Bush too much to even think for a second about voting for somebody like Nader.
But the Nader crowd are all of the "others" in political parlance. They have a naivete that smacks of only a headline-level understanding of events. We're talking about the greenies and the lesbian activist sort. Their interest in politics stretches only as far as the cover of the Weekly World News.
The target audience is college age voters. They are almost intrinsically anti-gov't, liberal and impressionable. Any one else is already one one side of the fence or the other.
Dangerously close? They're past the point of no return on that one. They truly are the enemy within.

$710.96... The price of freedom.
Absolutely!
That is if you even want to pay money to see a movie that will be out on DVD in 6 months.
I would say that all twenty-somethings fall into the target audience, and perhaps even the young thirty-somethings (the classic 18-34 demographic).
I also think the premise of this op-ed is silly. Basically that f911 will turn voters so virulently against the Iraq War that not only will they not vote for Bush, but they also won't vote for Kerry because he's too moderate in this formulation.
That's pretty silly in my book.
