FBI Agents Raid Home (Near farm in Wash. - Cow Poisonings - June 25th)

POSTED: 4:30 am PDT June 25, 2004 UPDATED: 5:26 am PDT June 25, 2004

ALGONA, Wash. -- FBI agents raided an Algona home yesterday after federal agents found a possible link to the recent cow poisonings at an Enumclaw farm.

The raid took place less than 20 miles from the dairy farm after several cows were exposed to a toxic compound a few days ago. Three cows had to be euthanized and seven more are still ill.

Algona residents were surprised to see the FBI in their usually quiet neighborhood. "Yeah it's shocking because it's a pretty quiet community," said neighbor Mary Noel. Agents dressed in hazmat suits confiscated boxes of evidence including cleaning agents and unlabeled bottles of fluid.

Authorities questioned the man who lives at the home but he was not arrested nor has he been charged with any crime. Federal agents would not comment on whether more search warrants will be searched.

However authorities did say the investigation is ongoing and they are focusing on former dairy workers who may have a grudge against the farm or the farmer.

" Maybe he accidentally fried some of his own circuiting with those tetra-waves..."

He's deep fried but easily could be a flunky for a nefarious org. Isn't Gaia some new age baloney cult?

Her SP101 has the three inch barrel. It was one of my original carry guns. When she showed an interest in it, I had it altered to DAO and had the hammer spur milled off. It's too easy to unconsciously cock the hammer under stress. When she fires I want her to KNOW the gun is going to go off by having to specifically pull the trigger through a relatively long, steady stroke.

For home defense she will use a .357 MagSafe load which produces lower flash and recoil than a normal "full house" defense load. As much as I'd like for her to get her concealed permit and carry it, she's just not that type of gal. She'll know how to draw from the custom holster I had made for the piece and fire to protect herself, but she won't take advantage of the training on a daily basis. ~sigh~ I do what I can.

Mysterious Attack Hits Web Servers (June 25th)

POSTED: 9:36 am EDT June 25, 2004 Government and industry experts are reporting a mysterious, large-scale Internet attack against thousands of popular Web sites.

The virus-like infection tries to implant hacker software onto the computers of all Web site visitors.

Industry experts and the Homeland Security Department are studying the infection to determine how it spreads across Web sites and find adequate defenses against it. A government warning says even Web sites trusted by users may contain the potentially malicious code.

The infection appears to target at least one recent version of Microsoft's Internet Information Server, which is popular among businesses and organizations. The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team says the problem adds a piece of JavaScript to the bottom of Web pages that accesses another server.

US-CERT says disabling JavaScript will prevent this activity from affecting a user's system, but it could make some sites that use JavaScript appear incorrectly. The attack's effects are said to be unusually broad, but are not substantially interfering with Internet traffic.

Has anybody checked OUR site? Also is there any info to show the attack will affect Mac users as well as PC's? Is there a difference in this situation? I know my Mac is unaffected by PC viruses, don't know about this situation. Although besides antivirus software, I also have anti-spyware programs.

Every day it's something new with this computer virus stuff. Makes one afraid to go surfing the net these days.

That javascript stuff is sometimes a problem for my computer, but there is one site I visit that I need it for, so can't disable it.

"Radiation" NOTAM Confusing (California)

By Russ Niles Newswriter, Editor Pilots planning a trip up the California coast might have been alarmed by a NOTAM issued by the FAA for the Point Mugu area, just north of Los Angeles, earlier this week. The NOTAM advised of a "radiation hazard" for a 1.5-mile radius up to 8,000 feet around Point Mugu Naval Air Station and said the area is "continuously hot."

Since Point Mugu NAS is the Navy's missile and weapons test center, it might be assumed (not by anyone we know, of course) that the NOTAM referred to some kind of nuclear mishap.

Fortunately that wasn't the case. A spokesman for the FAA's Los Angeles operations center said the NOTAM was issued to allow the Navy to test some type of radar (hence the term radiation) at the base. Despite the heavy military activity around the base, the area is also heavily used by civilian traffic.

And this dude wants the DOD and other U.S. government entities to work with GAIAComm -- eventually -- to secure contracts from other companies that will use the G4 tech he proposes? I think any administration current and future would stay far away from him; although there are grains of truth in his rant, the U.S. has never cared much for his kind of a revolutionary.

From your AV site........

Ailing Transponder? Then Get Outta D.C.
When the transponder malfunctioned on a King Air inbound to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport recently, it sparked a panicked evacuation of the Capitol building ... despite the fact that ATC was fully aware of the aircraft and the pilots had complied with all the protocols. So, to prevent future such unsavory scenes, ATC has changed the protocol. In a NOTAM, the FAA said that effective immediately, anyone flying in the D.C. Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) who finds their transponder is not doing its job must immediately exit the ADIZ by the shortest, most direct course. Further, any pilot who knows the transponder cannot comply with the ATC requirement to continuously transmit had best stay out of the ADIZ altogether. The only exception is if human life is at stake, and the pilot (upon request) will be required to provide justification of such at the completion of the flight.
