My suggestion, while your trying all these possible solutions, have a friend stand by with a large hammer, waving it back and forth over your computer. Maybe that will enhance your chances of cooperation from the damn thing, good luck. LOL!
I remember upgrading to Windows 2000 a few years back, and my Outlook program wouldn't work because it was outdated. I had to upgrade to a newer version. All the other Microsoft programs worked, but Outlook did not.
I'm sure it is one of Microsoft's way to "encourage" us to upgrade our software. Perhaps your older version of Works needs to be upgraded.
I just reread your question - never mind my previous response.
we have a winner. I thought I searched ms thoroughly but I guess my search parameters were a little skewed, thanks.
Sorry to say I think your only hope is to format the hard drive and do a clean install of XP. Then install Works. In the long run you will be better off anyway. Installing XP over 98 causes undiagnosable weirdnesses.
You need to: 1. clean out the registry. Try looking for RegSupreme it's free. You can clean out any references to your sisters Works program. 2.Save all the works files she created to another folder. Delete the Works folders. 3.Re-install your MS Works program.
Win98 upgrades to WinXP are fraught with problems. A Clean install is always best.
Good. I thought they might have a removal tool. I use their eraser97 and eraser2k for office removal regularly when working on pc's.
Problems is solved, but I understand your point and ideally I would have done that but I had no means to do that and save many of her works (no cd writer, zip drive etc...) My laptop is at the shop so I couldnt use it either.
Backup Data files.
Use "zap.com" and zap 0 (debug script found on bootdisk.com)
Then... install XP clean.
Clean install of XP is better than a half-zombie install over Win98.
Buy a Mac!
Just drag the application's folder to the trash and "empty trash".
Oh, wait....you are talking about Windows......
