<Beheading of a S. Korean> Exploding Demands to Military for Retaliation

(Seoul: Yonhap News) Hwang Dae-il reporting
After the news of Kim Seon-il(age:33)'s murder by Iraqi Resistance Group spread over the country, the website of Ministry of Defense was flooded with messages urging retaliation.

Especially, some posters were so consumed with rage that they vent their hatred against not only the terrorist group which murdered Mr. Kim, but also Iraq as a country and the Iraqis as a whole.

A guy whose handle name is 'I am a corporal, too' exhorted, "Wipe out everything in Iraq, to the last grass. Declare war against Iraq at once. Doesn't S. Korea have any backbone? Send paratroopers and marines to wipe Iraq off the Globe."

Another guy raised his voice, saying, "Iraqis are no longer human. Let us hunt devils in human form living in Iraq."

Another request demanded that the mission of Suh-hee, Jema Units(S. Korean medical and engineering units), serving in Nasiriah in Southern Iraq, be changed (into combat), and repay them with death.

One poster appeared to have almost lost his mind, saying, "Zaitun Unit(note: 3,000 strong S. Korean unit soon to be dispatched) should be a combat unit and sent to Fallujah. Slaughter all men, women, young and old. That should be Zaitun Unit's mission."

A poster named Song Dong-hoon argued, "Now that our brother was killed, what's the use for relief work? Even if we have to hire mercenaries, we have to take revenge until we catch the culprits. 50 million Koreans were humiliated. We should not help their rebuilding. We should keep retaliating until the suspects are caught."

Many posters lined up to volunteer for the mission if combat troops were to be organized to retaliate against the group which murdered Mr. Kim.

A man named Chae Young-soo said, "If they take volunteers for combat troops, I will sign up unconditionally. Innocent Korean son was brutally murdered. I cannot take it anymore. I want to fight terrorists even if I would be killed by them. I want a merciless revenge."

A man named Oh Sang-jin expressed his fury, "I am a second-year reservist. I want to re-enlist and wipe them out in Iraq. I like to show what Koreans are made of."

Some harshly rebuked the government for their lack of sound negotiating strategy, killing Kim Seon-il, while Japan was able to secure the release of their hostages.

This times around, there were few messages opposing the troop dispatch. When the news of Mr. Kim's kidnapping first broke, many such messages flooded the website.

From now on, the multi-national coalition troop deployments should go up by thousands upon thousands of fighting men in response to these barbarians' atrocities.

"You are placing demands on us?! If you don't release him within 24 hours, safe and unharmed, we will instead transition from our humanitarian mission to sending 10,000 of our best troops so that you and your kind may be wiped out as fast as boots can hit the ground.!!"

It sounds to me like they're just lying low to keep a lid on the revenge-speak. They have no conscience and not other agenda. The fire is getting too hot in THEIR kitchen for a change.

The terrorists have awakened yet another sleeping giant.

They do seem to be trying to provoke a global crusade, don't they?...

I remember them growing up overseas. We always wondered if the Turks or ROK troops were tougher. After observing Korean guys kick the sh** out of each other just for fun on a day off, we gave it to the ROKs.

When al jizzera says the video "may be disturbing to its viewers," that is code for "it doesn't serve our propaganda purposes."

I just love these anecdotes about the Turks/ROK. Send an email to the SKorean military link yesterday asking them to send in the ROK.

I read here on FR that the REAL story on those Japanese "hostages" was that they weren't hostages at all, but terrorist sympathizers.

Hardly any media coverage of that angle of the story here, though. Did it turn out to be true?

"Anyone that thinks we are not smack in the middle of a World War is completely delusional and denying reality."

That's a fact.

You neglected to mention the senior NCO who follows the formation carrying a baton similar to a policeman's nightstick. The NCO's job is to provide motivation to any soldier who falls out of formation that said soldier should quickly rejoin the formation and complete the run.

The ROK Army are physical fitness fanatics, but they are nothing compared to the ROK Marine Division. Let's just say those guys are in a class by themselves for physical fitness and discipline.

Partially true, but too, the SKoreans might not be as swayed and intimidated at being accused of being un-PC as the Americans.

What might be a typical SK reaction had their troops been the guards at Abu Ghraib. Would SK have allowed the 'horror of panties on a prisoner's head' to go all the way to the top of their government? [Doubtful.]

The terrorists are playing a deadly PR game against America. They may have made a serious misstake at killing the SKorean. Al Jazeera doesn't want to incite SKoreans even more. SKorea might not be as PC as the Americans; the SK may respond in kind.

In another story that didn't get much press: Afghans beheaded a Taliban in retaliation yesterday. Afghans know. You can't be PC with the Islamofanatical terrorists. You have to kill them.

Right and wrong. The ROKs are very good troops, for sure. But the S.K. government is wussy, and weak-kneed, and will not allow ROK troops to engage in combat in Iraq.
