OK .. I am about to beat my computer with a baseball bat
My Daughter SOME HOW downloaded something called CleverIEhooker .. though she swears she didn't do anything
Anyhow .. I was up till 4AM and I had thought I finally got rid of it ..
Apparently I was wrong and the dang thing is back
But now my brain is mush due to lack of sleep and I can think anymore
Could someone be so kind and give me a step by step procedure on how to get rid of this stupid thing??
Pretty Please :0)
If you're running 2000, ME, or XP, be sure to DISABLE auto restore before rebooting, otherwise the bug is restored from the previous backup...
Search for a tool called "CWShredder" and download it. It will search for and remove all variants of this nasty bugger.
Thanks for that info
Thanks for that info
If you have Win XP, your system restore is merely putting the darn thing back.
You're most welcome.
D'oh !!

I have used both spy bot and noadware, as well as Pest Patrol and Hijack this! in futile attempts to try to rid my machine of the CleverlEHooker thing! I think it's a hijacker trojan. Nothing has worked, so any advice anyone can offer will be appreciated.
I also can't get rid of Bargain Buddy and PeopleOnPage. All of the "fixers" -- Spybot, NoAdware, Pest Patrol identify these problem files -- they say they are deleted -- but they are right back there on thenext reboot. Grrrrr.
See # 34. I can't get rid of CleverlEHooker either, and I've tried everything short of a total reinstall.
How do you do that??
If I figure it out .. short of beating the heck out my computer
I'll let you know
See #23, Mo1.
How to Disable System Restore in Windows ME or Windows XP
One of the best features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus infects a computer with this operating system the virus may be accidentally backed up because of this feature. In order to completely remove a virus on these operating systems, you should disable System Restore before cleaning the system, then reenable it after the system is clean.
Follow the instructions below to disable System Restore
Disabling System Restore on Windows ME
1. Click Start, Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the System icon. The System Properties dialog box appears.
NOTE: If the System icon is not visible, click "View all Control Panel options" to display it.
3. Click the Performance tab, and then click File System.
4. Click the Troubleshooting tab, and then check Disable System Restore.
5. Click OK. Click Yes, when you are prompted to restart Windows.
Once you have cleaned the virus or other problem from the computer, reenable System Restore by following these directions

1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.

Minor nitpick - there is no auto restore or system restore facility in Windows 2000, only ME and XP...
