If you're running 2000, ME, or XP, be sure to DISABLE auto restore before rebooting, otherwise the bug is restored from the previous backup...

This is worth repeating!

If you're running 2000, ME, or XP, be sure to

Minor nitpick - there is no auto restore or system restore facility in Windows 2000, only ME and XP...
