Bush-Cheney '04 Launches New Radio Advertisement: "Optimism Ohio"
George W. Bush ^ | June 22, 2004

ARLINGTON, VA – Today, Bush-Cheney '04 announced the release of the campaign's newest radio advertisement, "Optimism Ohio." The new ad contrasts President Bush's optimistic outlook on the economy, showing the fastest growth in almost 20 years, with John Kerry's economic pessimism. Ohio's economy added 1,100 new jobs in May and the unemployment rate has dropped to 5.6 percent.

Script for "Optimism Ohio"

VO:
Paid for by Bush-Cheney '04 Inc.

President Bush:
I'm George W. Bush and I approve this message.

President Bush:
I'm optimistic about America because I believe in the people of America.

VO:
After recession, 9-11 and war, today our economy has been growing for ten straight months.
Historic tax relief helped create 1.4 million jobs.
Inflation, interest and mortgage rates are low.
And homeownership rates are at record highs.
We've met serious challenges and things are beginning to turn around.
And here in Ohio, things are looking up, too.
The economy added 1,100 new jobs in May and the unemployment rate has dropped to 5.6 percent.

So, what does John Kerry say?
He's still pessimistic, on a misery tour talking about days of malaise and the Great Depression.
Well, one thing's for sure.  Pessimism never created any jobs in Ohio.

It sorta comes off as "Hi, I'm George W Bush and I am transparantly aping Ronald Reagan in an effort to associate myself with his accomplishments."

I know that GWB has modelled himself after Reagan in some ways, and I am not saying he isn't optimistic. It just seems like since the Gipper died, every other word is "optimistic." Ok. Flame suit on.

The TV version of this ad came out a week before Mr. Reagan passed.

Well you are so right. Nobody but Reagan has the right to be optimistic. /sarcasm

Frankly, I would never vote for a pessimist. Pessimism is the purview of the demonrat party.

I have no problem with President Bush providing an upbeat message.

In Ohio, where state and local tax and labor policies are anti-business, yes, 1100 new jobs.

1,100 in May in Ohio alone, not the nation overall.

That number is nothing to sneeze at.

Achoo! I sure hope that number is a typo... it doesnt seem like anything to gloat about. The economy created almost 300,000 jobs in may, why would he use 1,100 number as a prop?

At least it's something. I don't consider 1,100 a bad number.Would you like it better if there were no new jobs? I feel that Ohio,as well as other states will have more job growth. How is mentioning that Ohio has 1,100 new jobs a prop?!
