>>Once productive assets are confiscated by the state for the 'common good', economics and politics merge.

Adding up Federal, State, and Local taxes, we're around 50% on a marginal dollar earned.

Scary.

Don't just settle for the cartoon.  The book is fantastic.

I reread it during the reign of the Clintons and feared for what might happen under President Gore.  I'm concerned that some of the powers taken by the Federal government in the War on Terror could come back to hurt us if another Clinton becomes President.

The problem with the cartoon is that it doesn't touch on the most imporant step in the process of becoming serfs. It is the abolition of private property that separates the barriers between person and state.

In short, this to me looks like the classic Problem-Reaction-Solution paradigm. Governments create a problem, the public reacts to the problem in a predicted way, and clamors for a Solution.

Then Gov't then offers their pre-planned solution.

In the case of this terrific cartoon, there are a number of planned "Problems", each with a solution, which creates even more problems.

This cartoon shows the Problem-Reaction-Solution policy is taken to it's logical extreme.

Governments create a problem, the public reacts to the problem in a predicted way, and clamors for a Solution.

While it is comforting to view our opponents in the most nefarious and cynical light, it actually diverts one's attention from the real threat.

Liberals sincerely believe that capitalism is an inherently flawed and unfair system. They really believe that collective participation (either through ownership, taxes, regulation, etc) in the means of production leads to greater economic AND political freedom.

It's because they are true believers that makes them very dangerous. Hayek also covered this point very well (as did Reagan): how does one oppose something that promises as its central thesis to be humanitarian?

The key was/is to address the inevitable net effect of these programs (the under-the-waterline, hard-to-see results): the erosion of liberty, hence 'The Road to Serfdom'.

Funny how the murder of Vince Foster and its clumsy, inept, but absolutely effective coverup comes back to haunt you. If the murder of the Asst. Attoney General (Vince Foster) can just go away with barely a wimper. Freedom is LONG gone. We've moved on but moved on to what ?,,

The murder ol' Vinny was tracks left by a secretive monster. Still there too. Hiding in the Bushes. The monster has gotten better at not leaving tracks.. Ol' Vinny is calling out from the grave to me.. The lesson of Vince Foster did have an effect on the whole of government. The lesson being if the Asst. Attoney General can get snuffed easily and covered up, WHO ARE YOU?...

Pulled the backbone right out of Kenneth Starr and any republican on the hill.. So much so, Newt'ie exited stage right without the punch line.. just see ya don't want to be ya.. Beggaring a revolution we just might be screwed.. the republicans have taken congress, the presidency and most of the governorships and quite a few of the state legislatures AND STILL socialism moves steadily AHEAD, on schedule..

A mystery ?,,,, Not to me... Vinnys fate was a watershed event in this country. More effort went into purseing the murderer O.J. Simpsons wife, than Vince Foster.. The glass was half empty about Barry Goldwaters time.. I have thrown the empty glass into the fire long ago. Any that say the glass is half full are in denial <<- not a river in Egpyt..

Seeing this Trump mania on FR has been the most dispiriting experience of the last ten years. I would have thought that after all these years being suspicious of the RINOcrat Slave Party, they’d be more discerning. It may be sort of comical, but this is really bad.

I’m with you. In a way, some on FR are with Trump the way the woman was with Obama. You remember the one: “I won’t have to worry about my house payment any more!”
