Monica flees NY, stung by Bill's cold words
The Irish Independent ^ | June 20, 2004 | ORLA HEALY in New York

Posted on 06/20/2004 2:58:38 AM PDT by aculeus

IN ONE of the smartest decisions of her life, Monica Lewinsky fled New York City on Wednesday night, hours after Bill Clinton confessed he trysted with her simply "because I could".

The former White House intern is said to be mortified and upset by Clinton's cold description of their affair.

The platoon of paparazzi outside her downtown apartment didn't help her mood.

Ironically, Lewinsky is expected to attend a wedding in Arkansas on Tuesday, the day Bill Clinton launches his mega-hyped White House memoir, My Life, in Manhattan.

Set to become the political bestseller of the year, the former President's book is expected to outsell wife Hillary's autobiography, Living History, which racked up sales of 600,000 copies in its first week last year. Slick Willie, nevertheless, isn't taking anything for granted. In order to justify his $12 million advance, Mr Clinton needs to sell at least 2m copies of the hardcover book.

In advance leaks from an interview to be broadcast on CBS tonight, Clinton gives the press the tantalising soundbites they want while at the same time giving the public their first glimpse at his deep sense of self-reproach over the Lewinsky affair. Both tactics are necessary to sell his $35 book.

In leaks made public on Friday, Clinton describes how the First Lady looked like she had been punched in the gut the morning he told her about his liaison with Lewinsky and how he spent the following two months sleeping on the couch. Mr Clinton reportedly also writes that he attributes problems during his upbringing as contributing to a self-destructive streak that tends to act up when he's tired, angry or feeling alone.

On Friday, the promotional juggernaut lost some of the sizzle it had built up during the week when AOL online released the first audio excerpt from the memories.

Those who tuned in expecting deep dish were treated to a folksy anecdote from Clinton about the "amazing moment" he shook President John F Kennedy's hand in 1963. "I'm sure he was aware that everyone would be looking for the racy bits, and he wants to come out of the gate first as a statesman-like figure," said Stan Baker, editor of Publisher's Weekly. Further AOL extracts, such as tomorrow's, entitled "Marriage remains", may draw higher ratings.

However, I think when the situation is the President of the US over 50 and a "silly" young woman, under 25, has the elements of "sex" abuse, kinda like that prison in Iraq.

Yeah, I can visualize that, Bubba with Monika's panties over his head.................

I recall during Impeachment how there was a segment in the Starr Report that had Monica pleading with Clinton, "Aren't you interested in me as a person?"

I suppose she's got her definitive answer now.

Regards, Ivan

Bill Clinton confessed he trysted with her simply "because I could".

Damn! If this is true the former President of the United States has publicly confessed in writing to SEXUAL HARRASSMENT. Now, it is time for the law to charge him for his crime. Alternatively, everyone ever jailed for the crime of sexual harassment should file an automatic petition for release and absolvement of their crime.

Monica and her family should be proud, it's not everyday that your family's name becomes synonymous with a sexual act.....Lewinsky's legacy.

If I were Monica, I would have book signings all over America. I would charge $5 to sign his book!

If she was smart she would have had a book ready to come out at the same time--"The Time of His Life" --or something.

Maybe she agreed to not write a book in exchange for her life.

"...she was used."

She has tried to cash in on her disgusting behavior just as he has. Think about it....if you had done something that you were truly ashamed of, would you write a book about it. If Clinton had a SHRED of decency he would not have brought all of this up again. If he wanted to write a book about his presidency without any personal material, he could have. It just wouldn't have sold as well. I think that he is delighted and excited that he is able to talk about this again. I think it gives him a "buzz". There are people out there who can't get enough of his escapades and find him to be exciting, but I think that this book is going to backfire on him. He is no longer in a position of power. He'll soon find that people are bored with him and will not want to associate with him. He'd better enjoy the limelight that the press is giving him now, because this show is about to be cancelled.

Why doesn`t Monica write a book?

Because it would be posthumous kiss and tell

(I know, it would really be a suck and tell, but that would be crude)

I still remember Monica's highly educated parents relating how they were proud of their daughter and had no problem with Slick. So she got f''d in her mouth and went on to sell cosmetics or whatever. White trash in the oval office.

I remember seeing Lewinsky's father being interviewed by Larry King. He had nothing but praise for Klinton, and blamed all of his daughter's troubles on the mean, evil Ken Starr. What's wrong with these people? How blind can you be?

I wish we could go back to a time where people would show shame for what they did and not turn scandal into book deals and television appearances.

Amen to that. You'd think people like Monica would want to slink into obscurity and rehabilitate themselves. Instead, by seeking attention and fame, they permit themselves to become perpetual laughingstocks, disrespected objects of derision.
