The DNC Invitation to Celebrate Sen Kennedy's Public Service
Protein Wisdom ^ | 6-18-2004 | Jeff Goldstein

From the New York Post's Eric Fettman:

The opening night of next month's Democratic convention in Boston is set to feature an emotional party tribute to hometown hero Ted Kennedy, who has served in office longer than every other senator but one.

Guess no one at the Democratic National Committee took a close look at the calendar: That July 26 salute to Teddy just happens to coincide with . . . the 35th anniversary of Chappaquiddick.

Well, actually, Eric, the DNC is perfectly aware of the Chappaquiddick anniversary (give or take a few days) -- which you'd know if you'd actually been invited to the Kennedy gala. Me, I run with a tonier crowd. Here's my copy of the invitation:

The 18th was the night of her death, the 28th would have been her birthday...

Sometime between 11:30 pm. and 1 a.m. on the muggy, moonlit night of Friday, July 18, 1969, a car careened off a bridge on an obscure New England island and plunged into a tidal pond. The driver of that car was Edward Moore Kennedy, then a 37-year-old United States Senator, and the sole surviving heir to one of the most glittering political dynasties in American history Riding with him was Mary Jo Kopechne, only ten days away from her 29th birthday Kennedy lived. Mary Jo Kopechne died.

Actually, the Scotch Distiller's Association has an annual Appreciation Banquet for Ted Kennedy. His dedication has seen their industry through many a lean year. He's sacrificed his liver, his cerebral cortex, a marriage, and an innocent girl so that folks in the booze biness could put bread on the table.

So it seems, please note the update on the "protein wisdom" blog:

update: I just received an email from the DNC party organizers reminding me that July 26 is also Mary Jo Kopechne's birthday,* and that I might want to wear "something black." Posted by Jeff Goldstein

A man who pubicaly declared that it is acceptable for the President of the United States, as long as he is Democrat, to place looking out for himself ahead of looking out for the Country. A Man whose actions demonstrate a belief that winning elections are far more important than winning the war can't legitimatelly claim to be a public servant.

It's sad, given that this is father's day weekend, that two dads totally failer their daughters..and might have changed history had they done the right thing by them. Koepechne's dad, or course, and that other swine, Dr. Bernard Lewinski...if he had gone to the WEH gates, grabbed a megaphone, and shamed Clinton for taking advantage ofhis daughter, Slick would have been out the door in a week..

I have a book on Chappaquiddick I've yet to read. I've scanned through it and know the basics of the story, about the partying and then Ted and Mary Jo driving off and Ted driving off the bridge, the car overturning and Ted escaping. But Ted does not report the accident. In fact, Ted goes to a friend's house and sleeps it off. And when it was finally reported 7-8 hrs. later, it wasn't even Ted who reported it. Apparently, Mary Jo did survive for awhile, was disoriented by the upturned car and was discovered with her hands gripping the seat and her head in an air pocket in the back. So it was that much worse. Ted didn't want to report it-could it have been the alcohol? And he didn't even spend 1 minute in jail!!!???!! What is the name of that Representative from South Dakota who ran a stop sign and killed a man on a bike and is serving time now and had to give up his seat in Congress? Yet, here is Ted Kennedy having the audacity to question anybody else, still sitting in the Senate. I think Ted ought to be taunted for it forever. I noticed when Ted made an appearance on c-span not to long ago, that he only gave a short interview to the host and was out of there. He didn't want a call-in because the chance this might come up and you know that's it.

What a parade of heroes the Democrats have: Kennedy, Carter, Clinton, Kerry...

If Ted Kennedy wants to try to start Impeachment proceedings on President Bush, I recommend that we start a murder investigation on Ted Kennedy. Murder has no statue of limitations. I am not sure on vehicular homicide, or manslaughter.

You forgot to mention he was also supporting his daddy's rumrrunning operations that built up the Kennedy stash of illegal money that bought elections for his sons and power for the daddy who incidentally was a supporter of Adolph Hitler. What a family of weirdos.

I suppose they should decorate with the HAZMAT warning placard for ethyl alcohol.

Teddy supports the Big Dig in Boston because nobody ever got drunk and drove off a tunnel!

It really makes one wonder about the folks in MA who keep sending him back to the Senate, doesn't it?

What did Papa Joe pay Mary Jo's parents to keep him out of jail, $1 million?? Course, if you are a major cause of the Great Depression by shorting the banking industry to make your fortune, what's a dead girl??

Maybe besides alcohol, Mary Jo was pregnant? A couple of people here mentioned the possibility. Teddy wouldn't want that cat out of the bag. It would give the cops a motive.

I just can't understand why people continue to elect this scumball.
