LOS ANGELES Shooting for sport is becoming more and more popular across the country.
Along with Pilates and windsurfing, clay target shooting (search) and handgun target shooting (search) are some of America's fastest growing sports. Some 20 million Americans participate in recreational gun activities.
Those who shoot clays call it "golf with guns."

Learn to shoot the AQT.
Are you a Rifleman or not?
Sign me up.
And all this time I've been shooting at golf balls! You're supposed to use clay pigeons?
Going to the range tomorrow. 40SW and 44 mag.
One of the first things I did after 9/11 was get my handgun permit.
Nowhere near DCM High Master yet, but I shoot better than I ever did in the 'Corps.
Apparently, I'm hopelessly out-of-touch.
Either that, or there are 3 people doing "Pilates" this week, a 300% increase over the week before (making it one of our fastest growing sports).
Clay pigeons? No feathers? No slaking your blood lust by slaughter? Isn't that what assault-rifles-that-are-only-designed-to-kill are for? I mean, after all, I saw it on TV, it must be true... (Sarcasm off)
Don't give the garden gnome liberation nuts an idea for a spin off group...
Clay Pigeon Liberation Front cell leader, signing off....
Hear, hear! Against enemies foreign and domestic.
I'm teaching my 11 year old niece to shoot with a single-shot .22 rifle. Next month I may buy a Ruger Bearcat and start her on pistols.
I got a Ruger 10/22 for Christmas. I'm heading out to the range tomorrow with some neighbors to fire some heavier stuff, like .30-06s and .30-30s.
The strange thing is that they listed Pilates as a sport...
The Los Angeles riots is what has people sharpening their skills out in these parts.
That piece of history sold a lot of guns as well.
I think if gangs and the like ever made it to the suburbs, they might not expect to have it as easy as in Los Angeles.
I will have the joy soon of firing WWII weapons.
All original. Have a friend who is a collector/class 3 dealer.
Rifles like M-1 Garand
Kar 43
MP
Thompson
M1A1 Carbine. (folding stock-WWII-not Korea)
G43
and even two variations of the MG.
I will pretty much be firing weapons that my Grandfather fired when he was with the 101st on D-day on in (Bastogne, etc) and some of the weapons fired at him.
Will be an interesting visit with my grandfather's history.
Good for you ! The arsenal of democracy needs individual citizens who can act in self defense vs die like sheep led to the slaughter at the hands of these terrorists .
Mind if I ask what you chose for the specific caliber , make and model to carry ?
Stay safe !
