Space Weather News for June 18, 2004 http://spaceweather.com
JUNE BOOTID METEORS: Earth is heading for a cloud of dust shed by Comet Pons-Winnecke in the 19th century. An encounter with the cloud might produce a pleasing meteor shower before sunrise on Wednesday, June 23rd. Or not. Forecasters aren't sure. If a shower materializes, sky watchers in western North America and across the Pacific Ocean are favored to see it.
Are we in the middle of a stellar shooting gallery?
These things seem to have happened before. That's what has led to the theories about "nemesis" and other periodicic triggers. I think it may be related to the fact that we've only recently passed through the plane of the galaxy and that this is timed right to synch up with the major dinosaur killers.
Are we in for a visit from Lucifer's Hammer?
One of these times the shower will turn out to be chunks. Maybe with a few big ones.
Yep.
Oh yeah! Aren't we all supposed to die this week? (re: old posts in weeks past)
I forgot to write it on my calendar.
Where's Dr. whatshisname from Australia? Isn't TODAY the beginning of doomsday?????
You're talking about the "Aussie Bloke" deal? The REAL Dr. Gartrell came forward and said "Aussie Bloke" was not him.
Yeah! That's the guy! Aussie Bloke/Dr. Gartrell!
I'm still wondering what kind of person has that kind of time and would put forth that kind of energy to try to persuade people that the sky is REALLY falling...

If the world is ending Sunday then I guess I'll skip getting my haircut on Saturday.
AUSSIE BLOKE! Dr. Gartrell (or was it Gartrel), right?
lol! Great graphic.
come on you believe that? That was just a double printed by the PTB.
Hot Fudge Sundae falls on Tuesday this week.
Are we in for a visit from Lucifer's Hammer?
I just had to copy it for myself.
Should I start on stocking barbiturates and vodka ?
That pic just screams to have Algore's face transplanted onto it.
If only I were that talented. :(
Dirty snowballs the size of houses, by the millions. PER YEAR.
Crude estimates of the brightness of small comets which are devoid of brightly glowing dust particles are indeed about the brightness of Venus, and their impact rate is about 10 million per year. It is remarkable that the orbits and speeds calculated for many of the "fireballs" are similar to those for the small comets.
