ASTANA, Kazakhstan (AP) - Russia gave the Bush administration intelligence that suggested Saddam Hussein's regime was preparing attacks against the United States and its interests abroad before the Iraq war, President Vladimir Putin said Friday.
Putin said he couldn't comment on how critical the Russians' information was in U.S. decision to invade Iraq. However, he said the intelligence didn't cause Russia to waver from its firm opposition to the war.
"Indeed, after Sept. 11, 2001, and before the start of the military operation in Iraq, the Russian special services ... received information that officials from Saddam's regime were preparing terrorist attacks in the United States and outside it against the U.S. military and other interests," Putin said.
"Despite that information about terrorist attacks being prepared by Saddam's regime, Russia's position on Iraq remains unchanged," Putin said.
Putin said Russia didn't have any information that Saddam's regime had actually been behind any terrorist acts.
The NYT will say that the Russian Terrorist data was of little importance because if it were truly critical data regarding our national security, the Russians - our allies against Terrorism - wouldn't have tried to block subsquent actions against Afghanistan and Iraq on the world stage.
You see, Russian foreign policy is more rational and transparent to them than our own which is obviously based on lies and deception. [/sarcasm]
"Thank you President Bush! I wonder what the Pat Buchanan brigade is going to say now?? I wonder what John Galt is going to say?"
Pat and John are probably the same clymer troll. I wonder how many of the old and only true conservatives on FR are really Pat.
I will be upping that count when I get off of FR. This data will be zinging around the world to my email contacts.
Well, repeat after NPR anyway. I just heard a piece in which they did everything but say Putin is lying. Used words like "murkey", "alleged", "unsubstantiated." The upshot was that this is just an effort by Putin to curry favor by giving George Bush a gift. My dashboard is now dented.
Thanks for the post and your ping.
I'm sure the Anti America editors/publishers of the NY Slimes will have this as front page news this weekend.
Anyone who advertises in the NY Slimes should be boycotted by Americans who want to stay alive and free.
"I mean this is big time politics by some guys that are playing for keeps."
They again misunderestimate GW.
You posted, "King Abdullah of Jordan provided info as well during his visit to the Texas ranch in 2002."
You are probably right, and GW has received many such warnings from many heads of states or SOS Powell has received warnings like this from his counterpart. Due to security re not revealing sources, GW has decided not reveal these sources.
We will probably see a parade of various people like Putin and others going public that they warned GW about the relationship between Iraq/the $oddomite and al Qaeda.

It is a sad day indeed when we have to ask ourselves who is hurting America more, our enemies or our own media.
You mean after the abuse "scandal"? LOL.
Today the LA Slimes doesn't correct the mis-impression left yesterday about the Iraq-Al Queda connections and the 9/11 Commission.
INSTEAD THEY CHOSE TO REPEAT THE LIE ON THE FRONT PAGE! WHAT GAUL!!!!
You've probably seen the list of Democrats who made similar statements, including Kerry, former Pres. Clinton, etc.?
It's astounding how different they sound today. They must think no one can look it up and they are certainly confident the mainstream press won't remind them of their contradictory statements.
Speaking of this matter and of great importance to use against Kerry.
In 1997, Kerry was on a national television show and said that we shouldn't worry about going to the UN Security Council to attack Iraq.
SUNUNU: But isn't what he has seen is a loss of U.S. leadership and an erosion under an administration that has failed to lead?
KERRY: On the contrary. The administration is leading. The administration is making it clear that they don't believe that they even need the U.N. Security Council to sign off on a material breach because the finding of material breach was made by Mr. Butler. So furthermore, I think the United States has always reserved the right and will reserve the right to act in its best interests. And clearly it is not just our best interests, it is in the best interests of the world to make it clear to Saddam Hussein that he's not going to get away with a breach of the '91 agreement that he's got to live up to, which is allowing inspections and dismantling his weapons and allowing us to know that he has dismantled his weapons. That's the price he pays for invading Kuwait and starting a war.

Very interesting. Also interesting it's getting some coverage but it's Friday and it'll be gone by tomorrow. Maybe tonight.....
However, I'll send it around to my list. The effort against the traitorous media is never ending.

Exactly! I will not believe this unless -- and until -- Judy Woodruff tells me it's true! ;-)

Nice catch, Grampa. And G'morning to you, too, my friend. Btw, where's that cartoon you used to post of Dems trying to commit suicide? ;-)
