Maybe we should start emailing the network to let them know how much we enjoy him and how tired we are of Savage. I'm listening on KSCO in Santa Cruz, picked up from KNEW in San Francisco. I'll look up the syndicator and write an email to them. Tried to find Farber's email but to no avail. Personally, I'd love to hear him every day. Savage has become so slovenly and boorish of late.
First of all "dude", I'm NOT a dude. Secondly, you have the right to be in Savage's thrall, and I have the right to be grossed out by his Howard Stern behavior, dude.
(dude, where's your taste?)
When I said Barry Farber had been around since the Goldwater days I was referring to his age. In fact, I met him in either 73 or 74 when I was 36 and I judged him to be in his early forties. Since I had been old enough to vote for Richard M. Nixon in 1960, and I did, then Goldwater in 64 against Johnson, my judgement was based on his age.
He was broadcasting on WOR in those days, and I met him at an event at a place called Liberty Village in Flemington, New Jersey. There it is. Full disclosure.
I agree that his voice is a treasure.
You have to love google:
Legendary radio talk show host Barry Farber, whose daily radio program is heard across America on the Talk America Radio Network, is a regular NewsMax columnist offering political and social commentary.
"Barry Farber is one of the greats of talk radio, and we are pleased to have him with NewsMax.com," Christopher Ruddy, president of NewsMax.com, said.
"Every morning I have been going to NewsMax.com. Its my favorite source for news on the web and Im glad to be on the NewsMax.com team," Barry Farber, who broadcasts from New York, said.
Barry Farber has had an incredible career. Before leaving college Barry had been an editor of a daily newspaper, a wrestler, a steel worker, a representative of American college students in Yugoslavia and Brazil, an interpreter for units of the Chinese Nationalist Navy, and a Phi Beta Kappa student. All before leaving college.
Since then, Barry's news coverage has taken him in and out of trouble spots all over the world: He led Hungarians across the border after their revolution and sped to Cuba after the fall of Batista, beating Fidel Castro to Havana by five days! Barry reported on the repression of Soviet Jews from the Moscow synagogue beginning in 1956.
In 1991, Barry's nationally syndicated radio show won him the title of "Talk Show Host of the Year." His numerous articles have appeared in the New York Times, Reader's Digest, the Washington Post, and the Saturday Review, to name a few.
Yes, I happened to hear Farber today and I was very impressed. Savage comes on when I start my car with the radio at 760, where I've turned it off when I arrive at work. Four times out of five I turn Savage off and pick up Hedgecock on 600. I like Hedgecock better but his show gets on to more local issues. Savage has more national coverage so I try to listen to him if I can stomach it (which I said I usually can't).
The other day Savage made a big error when he was talking to a caller about how to honor Reagan. Savage said they should name an aircraft carrier after him!
The USS Ronald Reagan (aircraft carrier) is presently sailing around South America, on its way to be home ported in San Diego, sometime next month.
...One mans trash, another mans opine...
I heard him today too. I was quite impressed. I knew he sounded like an older gentleman with plenty of knowledge about World War II. I hope he substitutes for Savage more often - like permanently!
A couple of days ago - he said Kerry should be elected to teach us a lesson to get back to conservatism.
Yesterday he said that Chaney should be dumped and GW should run with Powell.
He said he would vote for Powell for president.
Since Farber and Goldwater have been mentioned I'll mention a slogan of that era that should shed some light on why Savage criticizes mainstream Republicans, a choice not an echo, from the title of Phyllis Schlafly's 1964 book.
Savage's criticism of Republicans is just that; to wit, there's just one party, the Democans (or perhaps the Republicrats). There's virtually no choice there (on most issues). The biggest exception is the approach to defending the U.S. (Republicans are willing to do it ) at least to the extent of taking the war to the enemy "over there."
The biggest opponents of the modern conservative movements' Goldwater, Reagan, et al. is the "eastern, internationalist power structure that for two decades has dictated Republican nominations," said New York Times reporter Tom Wicker in 1963.
The Rockefeller Republicans shared liberal Democrat feeeeeeeelings on many issues. Many mainstream Republicans seem to share today's liberals' feeeeeeeeeeeeelings. Internationalist power structure, it's ba-a-a-ack.
Many of us agree with Savage's borders, language, culture. I overlook his few peccadilloes. Even if it's an act (I don't believe it is) I appreciate and respect him for putting himself and family at risk to speak out.
No way am I comparing Savage to Goldwater but Goldwater appealed to us "blue collar" conservatives as well as to many who would have been allowed near the Rockefeller Republicans' elite.
Yes, Farber was great then and he was great today. Don't forget Bob Grant who is still around.
You see, it didn't all start with Rush. We had this FCC "Fairness Doctrine" thing before Rush began nationally. The "Fairness Doctrine" was the conservative talk show hosts' Jim Crow law.
Like the man. Sounds in cadence a bit like Walter E. Williams, smart, I'd tune in again!
Yeah, what gives with that? He seems he's off the air a lot. And always random -- a day here, two days there.
At least with Rush it's, "I wouldn't be here Friday..." or "I'll be gone next Monday and Tuesday..." But with Savage it's a throw of the dice. Not a good way to attract and/or keep advertisers.
I listened to Barry Farber decades ago. Glad to hear that he is still doing his thing.
That sure brings back memories. We fooled our mom's that way, didn't we? Or did we? When I got older,I never asked her if she could hear the radio.
According to info please, Barry was born in Baltimore in 1930. So he's exactly the same age as G Gordon Liddy and Clint Eastwood.
They used to carry Barry's show in Columbus. God, I miss him. Hope he is doing well.
You validate my guesstimate that Barry was in his early forties when I met him in 73 or 74. Since he was born in 1930 and I in 1937, that would make him seven years older, or 73.
Long live Barry Farber.
I'm listening to him right now. This guy is great! Why isn't he a major host?
Yep, nothing says getting back to conservatism like Colin Powell as VP!
It's cowardly posturing so that he can say "I told you so" if Bush loses. We see that here from time to time.
Hey, I'm a 1937 gal!!!
