Posted on FR for those who are interested in this side of President Reagan's career. The RWR pages at the
Internet Movie Database (IMDb) includes a biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia. It reads, in part, "In 1937 he went to Hollywood where, as a contract player for Warner Bros., he was groomed for stardom, playing leads in B pictures and supporting roles in A's. He had a pleasant screen presence, and was by no means as bad an actor as his detractors would have one believe. Nor was he strictly, as the press would have it, 'a B-movie actor.' "

Thanks for cross-linking this to your excellent compendium thread, Backhoe. I posted this under Miscellaneous and Extended News, but it could easily be overlooked by people who may be trying to find such info, but who don't know about the IMDb.

Wow, thank you for posting that list. I had no idea he was in so many films!

Where were you able to see "Hellcats of the Navy?" I would like to see it if were available. Did Reagan play a Hellcat pilot in the film?

True story here:
Part I of King's Row was on the TV one afternoon many years ago when I went into labor with my first child. When it was over I called my husband at work and off we went.
I watched Part II the next day in my hospital room so lots of personal memories here concerning Ronald Reagan.

It was actually a very entertaining movie. RWR was in some good films. As Maltin's bio says, he was a better actor than his political opponents would have us believe.

I never saw that film, but have seen several of RWR's movies. I think I'd enjoy seeing the Tugboat Annie flick.

Cool atmospheric background to the birth of your child. :-)

A little surprised how many he made.
Also haven't seen many of them. "The Hasty Heart" was pretty good although a little too sad.

I'll have to make a point of seeing it first chance I get. RWR did a couple of films with Errol Flynn. Both were good.

Try to catch "Santa Fe Trail," in which he played second lead to Errol Flynn. A riproaring western from Hollywood's golden age.

Phil Hendrie (the cleverest radio guy in America) recommended RR's last movie, The Killers. He said Reagan's acting was superb, the best of his career.
I did an internet search and, sure enough, both the movie and RR get glowing reviews.
Here's the kicker: RR plays a bad guy, and all the reviews say his portayal is "chilling" or amazingly convincing.
To me, that says a lot both about RR's acting ability, and also about his insight into what bad people were really like.
To: Wolfstar
Yes "Sante Fe Trail" was one of the few I have seen. It was a fine movie altough a little weak as history.

Agree, "The Hasty Heart" is my favorite RWR movie.
Patricia Neal: "Yank, Lachie's parent were never married. Do you know what that means?"
Ronald Reagan: [pause]"He certainly is!"
