HBO thinks it may have found a series that in some ways can replace the mighty (and soon to depart) "Sopranos" as its centerpiece drama. The show is "Deadwood," the gritty, foul-mouthed Western.
The news on "Deadwood," HBO's latest drama series, has been highly favorable on two fronts. It drew the second-highest rating for any new drama in HBO's history, and it was also greeted with some of the best reviews that the network has seen at least since the start of "Six Feet Under" three years ago.

I'm curious what other Freepers think of the show and who their favorite characters are.
But the show certainly hasn't suffered for the loss...
awesome show. i hate E.B. which means he's a great character. Bullock is a great character. quite a departure from other roles in which i have seen that actor. i believe he was in a movie called "the lonely hearts club" and it was quite a different role.
Is Sopranos dead fur shure?
What a miserable ending.
sorry, the movie was called "the broken hearts club".
it has 1 more season. probably beginning next march or so.
I agree. Killer show. When I pared my cable bill, I kept HBO for Six Feet Under and, now, I'll keep it for Deadwood. Don't even bother me on Sunday night! ;-)
Deadwood's better than the Sopranos.
Try a year from next March. (2006)
I thought Sopranos had one more season, but it won't start for a long time. I guess HBO wants something for the meantime. I never watched any HBO shows until recently. I would never watch them if a kid was in the vicinity, and I don't watch any of them regularly. However, I did enjoy the Sopranos episodes I saw this year.
Robin Weigert was awesome in her role as Calamity Jane. At first you thought Al Swearengen was going to be the "bad guy".....come to find out...it's the other saloon owner...Powers Boothe. My hubby and I thought it was a great show...(could tone down the cussing a little)...loved the plot lines.
One more season consisting of ten episodes, then a probable movie.
I saw it for the first time this week.
I like accurate historical dramas, and this is pretty on the money. Life was hard and brutal, and the language coarse.
Some things are hard for me to watch though (but that is just me). I always try to play the game of "who would I be and what would I be doing if I were alive in that time?"
Which makes it uncomfortable to watch at times.
but for the gratuitously foul language ... 32 'C-cks-ck-rs' in 40 minutes of airtime, not to mention the 'f-cks' and 'c-nts' ad nauseum. I'm not prude, but that actually gets rather tiresome as do adolescents in their puerility.
Great show, though.
I hated this show the first time I saw it, NOW...I can't take my eyes off it!
I love it.
I hate that "The Sopranos" has such a long wait between seasons.
I figured they had to keep it going, because they didn't whack Tony, and the tension between him and that other guy he's trying to buy off was getting good.
I think the best is probably past. They never shoulda whacked Ralph. Everybody loved to hate that bozo.
Puts me right to sleep....and I don't sleep more than four or five hours a night, if that.
