CANNON URGES ILLEGALS TO DONATE ILLEGALLY Rep. Chris Cannon (R-Utah) was interviewed by Jose' Elibardo Rivera on Spanish-language radio station KBJA (1640 AM) on Saturday morning, May 22nd. Also on the air with the congressman was Cannon aide Marco Diaz. An English translation of the transcript from the show reveals the Cannonites explaining how they think illegal aliens could legally contribute to Cannon's congressional re-election campaign and get around the FEC laws.
"You, you, you... are illegal, as, as I was a long time ago," says host Rivera to his audience during the interview. "Let's say you are illegal. Does that eliminate you from the political race (between Cannon and Throckmorton)? On the contrary, you more than anyone have to vote, have to pull out your money. If you can't vote, give money."
Diaz must have realized at that point that they were treading on dangerous campaign finance ground, asking for money from illegal aliens, but he really only dug himself, and his candidate, in deeper by replying, "... really if you are undocumented you must find, we welcome this money, but you have to find someone who is legal in order to donate money."
Diaz reiterates that they want the money from illegals, but that it had to be donated "with precaution." The following exchange took place a little later in the interview...
RIVERA: Good, there is one thing and it is this. The question for you, Marco, or for the Congressman is, can citizens who are minors donate money?
CANNON: Again... The minor children of citizens, yes they can donate.
RIVERA: Minors?
DIAZ: Any person, if you, if your child is a citizen can.
At that point, Rivera chimed in with something which was unintelligible; however, Diaz responded: "Very good! I hadn't thought of that! But if your child is a citizen, you can donate in the name of your child. The only thing that you need is, is to be a citizen. Many of you, perhaps, have children who are citizens." Diaz then urged listeners to send $10 by purchasing a money order in the name of their children and sending it to Cannon's post office box.
There's only one teensy-tiny problem with Cannon's and Diaz's solicitation: It's illegal.
Federal election law clearly states: "It shall be unlawful for a foreign national, directly or indirectly, to make a contribution or donation of money or other thing of value, or to make an express or implied promise to make a contribution or donation, in connection with a Federal, State, or local election." A "foreign national" is defined in the law as, "an individual who is not a citizen of the United States or a national of the United States and who is not lawfully admitted for permanent residence."
Pretty cut-and-dried.
Now, that same federal law also states that "No person shall make a contribution in the name of another person or knowingly permit his name to be used to effect such a contribution and no person shall knowingly accept a contribution made by one person in the name of another person." Uh-oh. That's just what Diaz encouraged people to do.
Here's another part of that law: "An individual who is 17 years old or younger shall not make a contribution to a candidate..." Oops. Didn't Cannon just say it was OK for minors to donate to his campaign?
Furthermore, the law also states that "It shall be unlawful for a person to SOLICIT (our emphasis), accept, or receive a contribution or donation... from a foreign national." It appears painfully obvious that Diaz and Cannon broke this law on the air for all the world to hear by encouraging illegal aliens to donate money illegally to the congressional champion of amnesty for illegal aliens. Cannon and Diaz have some serious 'splainin' to do.
They better hope no one reads this and files an official complaint with the FEC... the forms for which can be obtained online at http://www.fec.gov/reporting.html.
CANNON RUNS SCARED FROM AMNESTY CHALLENGE "The Deseret Morning News reports that embattled U.S. Congressman Chris Cannon has refused a challenge to let an objective panel of attorneys decide a controversy roiling the Republican primary in Utah's third congressional district. His opponent, on the other hand, the surprising newcomer Matt Throckmorton, told the Salt Lake City paper that he was willing to accept the challenge, which ProjectUSA issued to both campaigns May 21.
"The controversy centers on whether Congressman Cannon is telling the truth when he denies he supports amnesty for illegal aliens. Throckmorton points out that, since Cannon is sponsoring or cosponsoring several amnesty bills in Congress right now, it's hard to swallow the congressman's denials. The congressman argues in response that his amnesty bills aren't really amnesty bills, they are only bringing-illegals-out-of-the-shadows bills.
"To settle the question, ProjectUSA offered to provide a panel of attorneys, selected by a respected independent arbitration organization, to read the bills in dispute and issue a professional legal opinion on whether the Cannon bills are amnesties or not. We even offered to sponsor a press event in Salt Lake City -- co-hosted by the local media organizations -- at which the panel's findings would be publicly revealed for the first time. Even ProjectUSA wouldn't know the outcome of the panel's investigation beforehand.
"The stakes: Both candidates had to agree to abide by the panel's findings. As we put it in our original challenge: 'If the panel finds that Congressman Cannon supports amnesties, Chris Cannon will publicly admit that he does indeed support amnesties for illegal aliens and his claims of distortion by his critics were false, and he will issue a public apology to Matt Throckmorton. If the panel finds the Congressman does not support amnesties for illegal aliens, Matt Throckmorton will publicly admit that his claims that Congressman Cannon supports amnesties were false, he was distorting his record, and he will issue a public apology to Chris Cannon.'

FATTEST OF FAT CATS "Rep. Chris Cannon still appears to be the richest member of a wealthy Utah congressional delegation, according to belated disclosure forms he filed with the House. They show the two-term Republican's net worth is between $6.53 million and $28.79 million, not counting homes and cars, which need not be disclosed.

Because of a loophole in disclosure laws, Cannon's form does not mention one investment that caused him some headaches earlier this year: a company called C4, or Conservative Campaign Consulting and Communications. Chris Cannon started with a $1 million investment three years ago has once again come back to bite the Utah County Republican. Chet Poulton, former creative director of C-Four (Conservative Campaign Consulting and Communications), filed suit Wednesday in 4th District Court in Provo claiming Cannon and the company owe him between $76,000 and $87,500 in unpaid wages. 'I'm not greedy. I'm not out to suck up every dollar I can,' Poulton says. DEADBEAT CONGRESSMAN STIFFS WORKERS "Chet Poulton, the former creative director for C4, an acronym for Conservative Campaign Consulting and Communications, filed a lawsuit Wednesday in 4th District Court against the company and (Rep. Chris) Cannon, saying he is owed $87,504 in wages.
"... A third former C4 employee has also come forward with allegations that he is owed for back wages. David Scholes of Hyrum said he was hired as a computer programmer for C4 and says he is owed $36,000. Scholes said he feels betrayed and angry. 'We felt that because Chris was a congressman, we felt we could rely on him,' Scholes said. 'That's why I hung on so long without getting paid.' WHAT'S CANNON HIDING? "Rep. Chris Cannon has asked a judge to seal documents in a lawsuit claiming he was a deadbeat employer... The motion for a protective order was filed Wednesday in 4th District Court. It responded to a plaintiffs' motion filed earlier this month asking Judge Lynn Davis to order CFour and Cannon to turn over requested documents and appear for depositions. Among the documents sought are correspondence and e-mails between Cannon and the company.

IF IT WALKS LIKE A DUCK & QUACKS LIKE A DUCK... Both President Bush and Rep. Chris Cannon (R-Utah) go to great pains telling everyone that their illegal alien amnesty proposals aren't "amnesty" proposals. They call 'em a lot of other things - such as "guest worker" programs - but amnesty is amnesty no matter what you call it...and even folks who favor such proposals know it. Take the Provo Daily Herald, located in Cannon's back yard, for example. In a May 25th editorial, the paper lamented the efforts of conservatives fighting against illegal immigration and made arguments in favor of Cannon's myriad legislation. Here's what they wrote: "A reasonable solution has been proposed: amnesty for immigrants who have a stable job history, combined with a worker program, supported by President Bush and U.S. Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah. . . . A responsible amnesty program won't solve everything. But it is an important step toward bringing order to the system and recognizing the vital contribution immigrants make to America." See? Even SUPPORTERS of the "guest worker" proposals acknowledge they are "amnesty" proposals. Remember this the next time you hear Chris Cannon say he does not support "amnesty." ALL HAT AND NO CATTLE Out of one side of his mouth, Chris Cannon says he strongly supports expanding the federal government's involvement in education by bear-hugging the No Child Left Behind Act. Out of the other side of his mouth he said in his debate with Matt Throckmorton that he supports the dismantling of the federal Department of Education. But does he? Or is this just another example of Cannon talking the talk without walking the walk? Cannon's put in a TON of bills to grant amnesty to illegal aliens, but how many has he introduced to dismantle the Department of Education? Zero.

Same old story, one clever Mexican congratulates another on how to find a way around US law. Granted, it's usually two illegals doing the back-slapping, not a congressional aide and a talk show host.
The next step is for Diaz to advise his Raza on how to go down to the welfare office, fraudulently obtain funds from the government, then donate them to the Cannon campaign.
Why not? Presidente Bush and Senador McCain support letting criminal aliens live here legally. Oh, sure, only for three years, so it's "not an amnesty," but you know that many of them will have those anchor babies. Besides, if we won't deport 12 million illegals now, what makes anyone think we'll deport 36 million in three years?
Very soon, what was once a "RINO" will simply be a "Republican."

Salt Lake is a weird place. A friend of mine was the prosecutor in charge of white collar crimes in the 1970's. He had one of the highest case loads in the country. Fraud, misappropriation, embezzlement are rampant there. The politicians are as crooked as Mexico's. And that includes lots of "Republicans" or whatever you want to call the bastards. Hatch is just the most polished of them, and Cannon is the least. A fat, smarmy, lying pig is what he looks like and what he is.
Some people I knew had the theory that Utah is polarized into the sweet, gullible, true blue Mormons who believe anything they're told, and a cadre of opportunist filth who prey on them precisely because they are so gullible. Hard to say.
This time dear Chrissy stepped in the doo-doo and committed a crime. Soliciting illegal aliens for donations pretty much is a slam dunk - criminal from the get. We'll see how serious the FEC really is with this one. At any rate, he just gave a massive boost to Throckmorton, since this made it into the Deseret News.
I charged another $50.00 to www.Matt4utah.com this a.m., maybe I'll dump another few hundred there tomorrow. Cannon may actually be on his way out. Wanna help all I can.
Begging illegal aliens for campaign money and votes seems pretty desperate to me. I hope you're right that Cannon is on his way out but for some reason there hasn't been any recent polls out to know where he stands in that district.

Yet again, CANNON shows himself to be an evil traitor in our midst, along with that other Utah louse, Orrin Hatch. They should both be ousted from the party ASAP.
This man, entrusted by the citizens of Utah to represent them as a lawmaker, solicits non-citizens and minors for illegal funding, refuses to pay people money he owes them despite being peronally wealthy and is attempting to head a committee that would oversee campaign fund regulations (how convenient).
Do they even make orange jumpsuits that would fit him?
Excuse me, but is there really good evidence of this? I always thought someone is presumed innocent until proven guilty? I realize that good people can go wrong, but until this came up, I've never heard of any wrong-doing by Chris Cannon! It would be sad if it were true; and he should be prosecuted and removed from office if it was. But lets wait until the facts come out, see if he is proven guilty in this, and stop denigrating Mr. Cannon, huh?

Chris Cannon And The Betrayal Of Utah

Here’s a heads up to my Utah friends from a California guy who knows the score on immigration.
Your leaders, Governor Mike Leavitt, Senator Orrin Hatch and Representative Chris Cannon are selling you down the river Styx.
And while they have gone loco in the coco over Mexico and all things Mexican, you’re whistling past the graveyard.
According to Ken Thomson, a former Utah Republican Delegate and current Executive Director of Utahns for Immigration Reform, “The people in Utah consider immigration a California problem.”
In 1988, when I moved back to California from Seattle, I saw that immigration had completely changed the Golden State. The California that I grew up in and loved was gone. And through my job at the Lodi Adult School, I could see that greater erosion for California was certain.
I called friends in North Carolina, Georgia and New Jersey to tell them about what immigration had done to California.
“That’s your problem,” they replied. “We’re okay here.”
I told them it was only a matter of time. Now, fifteen years later, they wish they had listened.
If Utah doesn’t wise up, it will be in the tank right next to California.
Earlier this month, Governor Leavitt visited Mexican President Vicente Fox at Fox’s Los Pinos compound. And here’s what Leavitt told Fox about issues of crucial importance to Mexico:

Driver’s Licenses for Illegal Aliens—by all means!
Synchronize the Utah school calendar with Mexico’s—Why not?
Share a common curriculum—it only makes sense!
Use text books in Spanish and teachers from Mexico--But of course!
Televise classes via satellite directly to Utah--I was about to suggest it!
Naturally, Leavitt supports the in-state tuition fees for illegal aliens attending state universities as outlined in Orrin Hatch’s Dream Act and Chris Cannon’s Student Adjustment Act.
After meeting with Leavitt, Fox told the Salt Lake Tribune,

But what Utah gets out of this—except the bill and the additional immigration that will certainly follow—is exactly zip.
Let’s look more closely at Chris Cannon. Of all of the two-faced oddballs that are constantly pumping for more, more and still more freebees for illegal immigrants, he must be on the top of the list.
Even by the abysmally low standards set by politicians, Cannon has astonishing cheek. He can look you in the eye and lie to you. And Cannon’s lies are even bolder since he knows that you know that he is lying.
At David Horowitz’s 2002 Restoration Weekend, Cannon told Michelle Malkin that he is completely opposed to illegal immigration. But only a few months earlier at the MALDEF Excellence in Leadership award ceremony, of all places, Cannon said:
“We love immigrants in Utah. And we don’t often times make the distinction between legal and illegal. In fact, I think Utah was the first state in the country to legislate the ability to get a driver’s license based on the matricula consular card and of that I am proud.”
You heard him - “Proud!”
And, according to Cannon, legal and illegal are the same? That would be distressing news to his Brigham Young University law professors.
Cannon seemed to have a very clear idea of legal vs. illegal when he was a Trial Manager for the Republicans in the impeachment proceedings against President Bill Clinton in 1999.
In his opening statement, Cannon quoted John Locke (no less) about the law: “Wherever law ends, tyranny begins.”
Then Cannon, in his next breath, recalled the words of Teddy Roosevelt:
“No man is above the law and no man is below it.”
Cannon argued passionately about the illegalities of obstruction of justice and cited chapter and verse from the Articles of Impeachment.
But only a few years later, Cannon seemingly can’t get a handle on the difference between someone who is legally in the U.S. and someone who is not.
The Clinton trial was not the only time Cannon huffed and puffed for the enforcement of the nation’s laws. Two years later, on September 20, 2001 Cannon was on his soapbox in front of the International Trade Commission railing against the perils of “dumping” foreign steel in the U.S.
Since Cannon and his brother Joe were the owners of the now defunct Geneva Steel Company, his speech was even more self-serving than his diatribe against Clinton.
Said Cannon:
“…illegal trade practices of foreign countries” [jeopardize the future of U.S. steel mills;] “…foreign steel companies and the governments that support them must observe the law….”
Cannon’s testimony ago takes on a special significance when read in light of his support of guest worker/amnesty programs.
According to Capitol Hill insiders, Cannon and Senators Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and Larry Craig (R-ID) are itching to introduce such legislation this year.
U.S. workers be damned!
But when the future of Cannon’s Geneva Steel was threatened by foreign competition, he stressed how hurtful illegal practices are:
“It is not just American companies that are adversely affected by these illegal actions, American families are hurting the most. I have personally witnessed the harm caused to steel workers and their families after losing their jobs. These families are suffering tremendously, struggling to buy food and pay bills.”
I wonder if pandering to Mexican lobbyists has anything to do with Cannon’s change of heart?
Utahns, you have your hands full with Leavitt/Hatch/Cannon.
And the news gets worse. Fox has sized you up as a patsy. He’ll soon be sending a contingent of “migratory specialists” to Utah.
Sew up your pockets. And don’t say I didn’t warn you.

SALT LAKE CITY, June 15 /U.S. Newswire/ -- An immigration reform PAC has launched a major advertising campaign calling attention to Rep. Chris Cannon's liberal views on illegal immigration in an effort to oust him from office. The U.S. Immigration Reform Political Action Committee (USIRP) urges Utah voters to remove Cannon from office by voting for Republican primary opponent Matt Throckmorton in the June 22 runoff election.
According to the ad campaign, Cannon is "Congress' most vocal advocate of amnesty for illegal aliens." Cannon is currently sponsoring a bill to give almost a million illegal aliens guest worker status. Those illegal aliens could later use their guest worker status to apply for green cards and eventual citizenship. Cannon's so called "Ag." bill is the counterpart to Ted Kennedy's amnesty bill in the Senate. As a member of Congress, Cannon has sponsored or voted for at least nine special "amnesty" bills as well as bills rewarding illegal aliens with in-state college tuition rates. Cannon continues to deny his current bill is an amnesty program and calls it an agriculture bill.
"As a member of Congress Chris Cannon has done more to encourage illegal immigration than almost anyone else with the possible exception of Ted Kennedy," said K.C. McAlpin, executive director of USIRP. "He and Washington politicians like him are the real reason our country is experiencing an illegal immigration crisis. His bill delivers amnesty on the installment plan and provides an open invitation to millions more illegal aliens to crash our borders and expect amnesty."
The ad campaign points to an award Cannon received in 2002 as further evidence of his liberal immigration policies. The Mexican American Legal Defense & Educational Fund (MALDEF) gave him its Excellence in Leadership award for his promotion of open border policies and lobbying on behalf of illegal aliens. As additional proof, the ad notes that Cannon receives most of his political contributions from "cheap labor interests" and groups outside Utah.
"Chris Cannon says one thing in Utah but does the opposite inside the Beltway where he is constantly carrying the water for open border groups. It's time to hold him accountable for talking out of both sides of his mouth and encouraging the unprecedented flood of illegal aliens the country is experiencing," McAlpin said. "We hope Republican primary voters remove him from office on June 22."

It is only the immigration issues he pushes that are the problem. Everything else in his record looks great, especially his strong stand against abortion. Looking at his voting record (except immigration), he really doesn't look like a RINO. Maybe someone else can clarify why he is considered one (again excluding the immigration issues).
Every Utah-dweller I've ever met is so far left, even right-turn car blinkers don't work.
You've never heard of any wrong doing by Cannon? Gee, that's funny. Mr. Cannon is up to his eyeballs in accusations about keeping campaign money for himself and not paying people involved in the campaign consulting firm C4. Sounded like a typical Utah sleaze operation to me, similar to crap like Bonneville Thrift. How come you haven't heard about that? Not paying attention? Don't want to believe anything bad about Dear Chris?
'Stop denigrating Mr. Cannon' -- I'm gonna denigrate that fat criminal until he's bankrupt, out of office, and doing time at Point of the Mountain. And see-no-evil, hear-no-evil simpletons from Utah who vote for him like sheep aren't gonna stop me from doing my damndest to see that it happens, because the guy is pure criminal sleaze and his antics are damaging the country.

I know this Guy (Russell Sias) mentioned in this Fox News article, and he is made out here to be a foaming at the mouth Anti Immigration Coalition member. He is really just fed up with the superior treatment Illegal aliens get in this country when they are ILLEGALY here. I also am opposed to Law breaking, Anarchy, and ILLEGAL immigration. (All the Hispanics I know are here legally, and are also apposed to this type of amnesty. Where does cannon think he is going unless he is planning for the illegal vote to carry him over the finish line?

Thanks for the link. Yes, the article does put Russell Sias in a bad light. But I think anyone really concerned about the immigration issue will see beyond that.
I wish Rep. Cannon would have taken a different route on this issue. Like I posted earlier, his voting record on most other issues is great. It would be sad to lose such a conservative voice in government over just this one issue of immigration.
Why would he risk losing his conservative support over this? Seems like he could have come up with other ways to tackle this issue, solutions which would not alienate conservative thinkers. Guess it's easier said than done.
If I lived in his congressional district in Utah, I would vote for his opponent, Matt Throckmorton.
Actually the No Child Left Behind is bringing in standards to the public schools for accountablity. The teacher unions and Ted Kennedy hate it, so it is ok by me.
