SCOTT'S FISHY FURY

SCOTT'S FISHY FURY

By HOWARD BREUER

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

June 15, 2004 -- REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Scott Peterson hotly cursed and threw a flashlight after police grilled him about his suspicious fishing trip the day his pregnant wife, Laci, disappeared, one officer testified yesterday.

"I asked him what he was fishing for," Modesto Detective Matthew Spurlock told rapt jurors during the start of the third week of Peterson's murder trial.

"He had this blank look for a second or so, his eyes shifted a bit. And he didn't really answer the question.

"I asked what he was using for bait, and I got the same kind of response . . . this blank shifting," Spurlock said. "He couldn't really answer. Then he said, 'a silver lure,' and he held his hands about 7 to 8 inches apart."

Spurlock said that when he then asked Peterson to leave the house, he watched as the fertilizer salesman cursed through gritted teeth and threw a flashlight to the ground.

"It sounded like 'f - - -,' like it was being said out of frustration," the cop said............

Mistrial denied in surprise testimony

Mistrial denied in surprise testimony

REDWOOD CITY -- The judge in Scott Peterson's double-murder trial refused to declare a mistrial Monday over surprise testimony about Peterson's use of an obscenity shortly after his pregnant wife disappeared.

Superior Court Judge Alfred Delucchi gently chastised prosecutor Rick Distaso for pulling a fast one, but concluded that it was not a gross violation of trial procedure.

Also Monday, Sharon Rocha cried as she looked away from a large screen showing remains of her daughter, Laci Peterson. Minutes later, pictures of her smiling daughter splashed on the screen and Rocha quietly got up and exited the courtroom.

And two Modesto police officers said Scott Peterson seemed caught off-guard when first asked about his solo fishing trip.

Sparks flew after lead defense attorney Mark Geragos asked Delucchi for a mistrial, in a motion that drew snickers from the audience.........

That's right, RG. Look at how many extremely clear pictures they have of details on the Titanic--pictures taken in the dark depths of the North Atlantic! And they are pictures of LITTLE details.

I'm surprised a freepers would be so uninformed as to overlook the wonderful technology they have nowadays, including underwater cameras and robots!

To this day, it still boggles my mind that he actually thought that if he declined media interviews and wore his hat low and walked fast to get away when the cameras were on him, that he could somehow stay relatively anonymous throughout the whole ordeal--and fool Amber.

It is very, very clear that he thought he could weather all the fuss and publicity, and then go back to being Amber's boyfriend w/o ever having been found out to be the widower of the murdered Laci!

No sooner did the big story break about how Scott had a mistress (meaning he now knew that Amber was onto who he really was), than suddenly Scott did a 180-degree turn and was eager to be interviewed, and was in front of the cameras all the time. I mean, it was really sudden, and it was really obvious!

Geragos is famous or infamous and the prosecutor is not?...I don't know..he irritated me and even he admitted Geragos may have crossed the line a couple of times...

The "were you really sick" question could be understood by the jurors and their own "unsick" sick days off, I imagine, therefore the guilty laughter.

We are STILL in pretrial, but yes those funds are available, say if she had to be hospitalized. The various counselors that we have been seeing on a weekly basis are free of charge, and so far it's going well. I imagine if the county Docs weren't helping us much, I could get assistance to see others. So far we have been okay, but in the event that we should need monetary assistance from that fund, they will eventually go after Hull to get him to pay some of that money back...fat chance of that tho...he's too busy being a criminal to hold a legitimate job.
PS...I heard his wife left him and has an order of protection against him. I need to call the paralegal to get the scoop.

In my mind, I hadn't emphasized his lateness to the vigil--but one thing that I noticed from the very start (and I watched this thing since it was first on TV) was that "the husband" was extremely camera-shy. I always thought that was odd. Then one day someone on here said, "Not only is he never interviewed, but when he has to be on camera, he wears a hat low over his eyes." Which was TRUE! And I noticed right off that when they had their vigil, he did not sit on the stage w/ family, not even with his own parents. I found that PROFOUNDLY weird! And THEN I saw that picture of him taken at that New Year's Eve candlelight vigil. He is not just smiling, he is clearly yukking it up!! He looks exactly like a guy you'd see on a college campus during a cold-weather keg party in a courtyard or something. I mean, exactly! Right down to the way he was holding his candle like it was a drink.

DA, You just nailed it, all of the above are what peaked my interest in this case, in addition to the obvious sadness and mystery. Something was off with Scott from the outset.

I am so sorry your daughter is a victim of crime...

It seems Scott tried to borrow money from the fund.( Cell phone bills too high? Defense lawyers needed money?)

Melanie Lomax said the jurors will look and see if Scott showed normal concern or grieving pattern or did he act like he knew she was dead.

Beth says Scott's interviews will add that info. Defense lawyer saying it has been testified to that Scott cried and did have emotional reaction to his neighbor..Medina..

His tears to Amber begging forgiveness for lying about his marriage and admitting he is the husband of the missing Laci will be touching, I'm sure./sarcasm

"Correction - Article from last April. Sighting was in March."

I beat you in posting that article. See #317. :-)

I read in one article that they can see a tire at 300 ft. and like someone said on here, look at all the perfect images they got of the Titanic.

"Wouldn't it be funny if Amber testified and said something like, "A couple times when Scott and I were intimate, he put his hands around my neck and I thought he would never stop pressing on my neck!!" Or how about if Amber said, "Scott wanted me to let him tie me up, but I said no b/c I think that stuff is dangerous"?"

Didn't someone say that MG argued in opening statements that SP is not being charged with abusing Amber? My recollection may be wrong but if he did there would have to be a reason why he would say such a thing. Do you suppose they have evidence of Amber abuse plus the violent porn?

Thanks Meg, I don't talk about it too much in open forum, but many FReeper FRiends have been so wonderful in private messaging, Kim4VRWC'S and the girls here. My daughter being a minor is one of the reasons I want to protect her privacy, and the fact we are still in pretrial, I would like to also protect the integrity of the case. But it looks like our perp will be going to the Big House for a long time...he is a repeat offender. I can barley stand the sight of him at the hearings, don't know if I want to vomit, or do bodily harm to him. I know it could not measure up to the way Sharon feels having to look at that monster of a son-in-law of hers...every time he grins with those bucky-beavers...I just want to smack him myself!!

Hey check out this thread from CTV boards....
(snipped)
Houston, we may have a problem....
Just read Officer Spurlock's testimony. In it he says that peterson, in response to Mr. Grantski's question about what time he left the house to go fishing, responded between 10am and 10:30 a.m. At approximately 8:30 p.m. that night, after this conversation with Mr. Grantski, peterson calls Karen Servas and learns that she found McKenzi at 10:30a.m. When Detective Brochinni arrives at 10:30 p.m. and questions peterson, his time of leaving the house changes to 9:30 a.m. Oh, oh........looks like a problem for the inmate. In my opinion of course.....lol

She corrected her testimony by checking receipts and said she found the dog in the drive at 10:18...Scott made a cell phone call that has him travelling toward the warehouse at 10:08. No matter how you slice it...Laci had 10 minutes(or less) to mop, change clothes, get the dog and be kidnapped.

The time change to 9:30 was just another lie..

"Scott made a cell phone call that has him travelling toward the warehouse at 10:08."

Do you know where his warehouses are located? I was just reading below article and was wondering where these streets are in relation to Laci's home and Scotts warehouses etc.

"When Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department deputies brought in a specially trained bloodhound on Thursday to help in the search, it didn't head into the park. Instead, it headed to Yosemite Boulevard. Later, the dog led its handler from the Peterson house all the way to Maze Boulevard.

I think your onto something Spunky..with the dogs going to that location...
Remember when Distaso mentioned a certain intersection that he asked all to make note of it, it will tie in later??? Maybe that's where Snott let Mac off and the cell phone records will put him thereabouts at 10:08????

Yosemite Blvd, aka Highway 132, runs east/west. It is located about 6 blocks south of the Peterson residence.
Traveling west on yosemite/132, 14 blocks will get you to the center of downtown Modesto.
The downtown streets run diagonally vs. north/south - east/west.
After passing through the downtown area, due west of Yosemite/132, the street becomes Maze Blvd/ 132. Highway 132 continues West approx 20 miles to intersect with I-5 and further west merges into I-580 - the main highway leading into the greater Bay Area (SF, Oakland, Berkeley, etc).
The warehouse is located just a few blocks north of Maze Blvd west of the downtown Modesto area.
Hope that paints a picture for you Spunky

Also? MG asked lots of questions as to which direction Mac's head was facing when the neighbor saw him when she got out of the car. Wish I was in the courtroom to get a better picture, had the maps handy to look at.

Distaso's caution was to remember Coffee RD/Scenic Dr.
This is located due north of the Peterson house - across Dry Creek. There are no streets crossing the creek and one must travel either east or west to drive to Coffee/Scenic. Long round about drive. There is, however, a small footbridge at that location.
More mental pictures for you. dd
