SCOTT'S FISHY FURY

SCOTT'S FISHY FURY

By HOWARD BREUER

June 15, 2004 -- REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Scott Peterson hotly cursed and threw a flashlight after police grilled him about his suspicious fishing trip the day his pregnant wife, Laci, disappeared, one officer testified yesterday.

"I asked him what he was fishing for," Modesto Detective Matthew Spurlock told rapt jurors during the start of the third week of Peterson's murder trial.

"He had this blank look for a second or so, his eyes shifted a bit. And he didn't really answer the question.

"I asked what he was using for bait, and I got the same kind of response . . . this blank shifting," Spurlock said. "He couldn't really answer. Then he said, 'a silver lure,' and he held his hands about 7 to 8 inches apart."

Spurlock said that when he then asked Peterson to leave the house, he watched as the fertilizer salesman cursed through gritted teeth and threw a flashlight to the ground.

"It sounded like 'f - - -,' like it was being said out of frustration," the cop said............

Mistrial denied in surprise testimony

Mistrial denied in surprise testimony

REDWOOD CITY -- The judge in Scott Peterson's double-murder trial refused to declare a mistrial Monday over surprise testimony about Peterson's use of an obscenity shortly after his pregnant wife disappeared.

Superior Court Judge Alfred Delucchi gently chastised prosecutor Rick Distaso for pulling a fast one, but concluded that it was not a gross violation of trial procedure.

Also Monday, Sharon Rocha cried as she looked away from a large screen showing remains of her daughter, Laci Peterson. Minutes later, pictures of her smiling daughter splashed on the screen and Rocha quietly got up and exited the courtroom.

And two Modesto police officers said Scott Peterson seemed caught off-guard when first asked about his solo fishing trip.

Sparks flew after lead defense attorney Mark Geragos asked Delucchi for a mistrial, in a motion that drew snickers from the audience.........

June 14 (BCN) — A furious Mark Geragos asked for a mistrial this morning in the Scott Peterson double murder trial after prosecutors failed to inform him that a police officer overheard Peterson use an expletive on the night his wife Laci went missing. .........

I do not go fishing very often but I can always remember what I was trying to fish for-walleyes, crappies, perch, etc. You use different lures or bait for your fish of choice plus you position your boat in areas conducive to catching what you are looking for. Further, sometimes you just sit on one spot and sometimes you troll. Even a neophyte knows this stuff. I assume the jurors do too. Scott should have thought about this.

That's right! Reels, too, and lines.

I can't wait for the evidence to be presented!!!

You are completely correct on the litter box issue. There is a parasite in some cat feces that, if it gets into a pregnant woman's body by inhalation or from hands that are mnot washed immediately, it will definitely affect the growing baby. Better that the pregnant woman stay clear of the litter box.

Yeah--I guess Scott thinks he is one of the lost boys from Peter Pan now. He wants a mother!

I had occasion to go to the grocery this evening, so of course I read the NE article. The woman's name is Denise Salas. I saw her picture and she DOES look a lot like Laci, but not really as pretty. She seems to have a ready smile.

There is one slight possibility that needs to be considered here, though, I think. It's possible that Scott is just really easy to trap into stupid behavior. I mean, some people would love to have a little story to sell to the NE, so if they noticed a sleaze like Scott flirting with them, they might not show the slightest disapproval, and next thing you know, sure enough, he falls in the trap and writes her a note. I am not saying (if this all happened)that it is anyone else's fault but Scott's; I'm just saying that some people know an easy mark when they see one.

On LKL tonight Nancy Grace was asked about this and said she'd read about it. She said she didn't know if it was true yet, but said that if it is, and if the prosecution brings in evidence of it, "the lid is gonna blow off that courthouse."

In the NE article, it says that Salas dutifully brought the first note to the prosecution, and they said to her that she needn't do anything to stop him from writing another. So she didn't express disapproval or anything to Scott. So then allegedly he wrote another. This makes it sound like the prosecution IS going to seek to have the notes admitted!

That's amazing, about the torso overlay! Heck, the "Motherhood" label, to me, is enough to show it was Laci! How many women wearing that product could they have at the bottom of that Bay, anyway?

He's having a meltdown now because, IMO, he knows that the cards are stacked against his client. He will ask for a mistrial at every little off color thing that happens in this trial.

LOL! Exactly, he'll blow his stack at anything...if only to persuade the Petersons that they're getting their money's worth.

I cannot wait till they get to the cement evidence...and I keep thinking about the DUCT TAPE.

Me, TOO! And Amber hasn't even taken the witness stand yet. :)

I think it was the other way around, but the point, I guess, is that he had this tarp and he'd put gasoline on that boat cover for some reason--perhaps because he'd covered Laci's body with it and didn't want the dogs to scent that.

There is a girl on WebSleuths Spunky who has a friend that works for the MPD. LAST summer, the poster stated that her friend told her :"You Won't Believe what they have!!" The friend of course cannot elaborate but she said it had to do with the sonar. Remember when the word was that the MPD and the Colorado co. with the Sonar equipment were doing a search one day it was reported that they thought they spotted a body??? Well, apparently, Roy Wasden the Police chief hadn't wanted that info to get out, so they did some damage control and stated that what they saw turned out to be an anchor. At least I'm pretty sure that's how they did the damage control. They were afraid that IF the word got out that they had spotted a pregnant woman, Peterson would have fled immediately. NOW, nearly one year later, this has surfaced again and this time the posters friend gave some more detail being what I stated above. The friend AGAIN said "You WON'T BELIEVE WHAT THEY HAVE"!! Then there was the explanation that the pictures were really very clear and showed all that I said. Laci, basically never moved more than a few feet from where she was deposited DUE TO the anchors. It was the movement of the tides pulling her body back and forth that produced
"drag lines" or a small trench. Finally with the undersea creatures AND the pushing and pulling AND the decomposition, caused the stress points to finally give way and loose her. The gases in the uterus by this time which had weakened at the very top finally gave way and Connor broke loose. It has been stated by Dr. Spitz that this separation event happend so close to each other that that is why Laci and Connor washed up within about 20 hours of each other in roughly the same place.

I saw it! Pixley keeps referring to the defense as "we"! I still say he's on their payroll, but I can't prove it, lol.

Greta was good, too. On there, she said that two cops who testified today said Scott told them he LEFT THE HOUSE "BETWEEN 10:00 AND 10:30 A.M. ON THE 24TH"!

But the dog is already Laci-less by 10:18!

I'm sorry but this sonar thing has to filed in the "Too good to be true" file. Not a dig at you, CO. I know you read it over there and they made it sound believable but come on.

If this was true we'd be seeing Geragos lashing out at the public and asking for mistrials at the drop of a hat.

I know I'M sure sick of hearing "rush to judgment"! IIRC, that phrase originated in REAL ESTATE law!

No way was she squatting on the side of the road! That's just stupid.

Also, if she wouldn't go in there to go to Scott's bathroom b/c the fertilizer chemicals were so thick in the air in his warehouse, why would she go into the warehouse to "sit in the boat"?

Yes, and Laci and Scott were fairly fastidious homeowners. It's totally out of character for him to have a boat cover soaked in gasoline just lying around in his shed, an obvious fire hazard.

Notice that in Geragos' story, Laci CONVENIENTLY involved a third party in her "trip to the warehouse to see the boat".

So, CONVENIENTLY, suddenly this third party is available to verify that Laci was indeed at Scott's warehouse after he'd bought the boat.

To me, this signals that they are NOT planning to put Scott on the stand. If they'd been planning for Scott to testify, they would simply have him testify that Laci came over there and looked at the boat.
But then, it's no great surprise that the defense would decide to NOT have Scott testify.

What?? The sonar shows that the baby was still inside her at the time?? Wouldn't THAT be something!!

All this bit about the baby having been born and then killed separately is ridiculous anyway. So, suppose they cut the baby out and kill Laci and dump her, then when the baby dies "later", why would they dump him in the same exact place anyway? And the two must've been in the same place, or why else would the currents have brought them to shore so relatively close to one another?
