I don't think so. John Breaux is many things but I don't imagine he wants to run as Kerry's Veep. Its not going to win Kerry LA or help him in the South. Michael Dukakis' running mate Lloyd Bentsen couldn't even help the Democrat win Texas. It would be a fool's gamble.
Right up kerry's alley, I would say.
But Breaux is more powerful over LA than "Lord" Bentsen was over TX.
Funny thing is Bentsen was reelected by Texans even as they voted for the first George Bush in 1988. Some coattails, huh?
But Breaux is French, maybe they'll get along better?
Just do not see John Breaux as wanting to be a part of the Kerry mix. And Kerry will not pick a Democrat who is seen as more impressive than he is.
Unless Kerry looks like a shoe-in, probably most prominent Dems don't want to be asked to be his #2. They don't want to be the next Geraldine Ferarao in history.
That means Kerry runs without a VP!
Think the Dims can get that past the rigged courts, ala Lautenberg? ;)
. . .well, President is not quite 'it' for Kerry; 'King' is what charges his 'power lines'. Would not want to be his VP anyway; or how.
But Edwards obviously thinks otherwise.
So who will it be? The Governor of Iowa has 4% of the Dems backing him, according to a poll, and he will bring in a state he might win no matter what. John Edwards, who is more attractive than Kerry doesn't have the numbers to win re-election in NC, but he might take it for the publicity, although it won't help Kerry anywhere else. Anyone described by the mainstream press as a *smooth talker* is not going to do well in any rural area, IMO.
Yesterday we went to watch the Blue Angels. I would have sworn one couple there were both going to vote for Kerry until the husband made a joke about putting Kerry on board the C-130 that demonstrated a JATO, and forget to pack his chute. He had a devilish grin as he made this suggestion. It drew a big laugh.
I think Kerry is toast.
Yes, that 1988 Bentsen reelection is the last time a Democrat won a Senate race in TX. Bentsen was personally popular but could not dictate that TX vote for Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Clinton. Breaux dictated the election of his colleague Mary Landrieu and new Governor Blanco.
Good points.
I'm not so sure all Americans want an ambulance chasing, Presidential aspirant loser, one term Senator, (I don't think I wanna do this anymore) to be, in anyway, shape or form, next in line for the most powerful position in this world.
IMHO, Edwards is a boost for our side.
Kerry would be a disaster as President and anyone like Breaux or McCain will certainly tarnish themselves with associating themselves with Kerry. It's funny how they liked and like to mock President Bush as having Cheney running things-when it is clearly not the case, but we all know Kerry has NO CLUE, NO GRAVITAS, he is a really poor candidate who is not running on his record because it clearly shows a man who is incapable of leadership and has dangerous stances on defense and domestic politics. Even the proposal to raise gas taxes-that isn't exactly a tax on the 'rich'!
If he wants a Southerner other than Edwards, he still has many choices: Mary Landrieu, Ann Richards, Alcee Hastings, Janet Reno, Phil Bredesen...
In 1904 the Democratic V.P. nominee was an octogenarian from West Virginia. Robert Byrd fits the bill for 2004.
