Conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh announced Friday that he and his wife, Marta, are divorcing.
The Limbaughs "mutually decided to end their marriage of 10 years" and have "separated pending an amicable resolution," according to a statement released by Limbaugh's publicist.
The couple shared a $24 million oceanfront mansion in nearby Palm Beach, from where Limbaugh often broadcast his daily three-hour show.
Spokesman Tony Knight said the matter was personal and declined further comment.
It was the third marriage for both Limbaugh, 53, and his 44-year-old wife, who were wed May 27, 1994, at the Virginia home of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Thomas officiated the ceremony.
The past several months have been difficult for the politically and socially conservative Limbaugh, who announced in October that he was entering drug rehabilitation because he was addicted to prescription painkillers.
At the same time, West Palm Beach prosecutors announced they were investigating whether Limbaugh illegally went "doctor shopping" to obtain the pills. The practice refers to visiting several doctors to receive duplicate prescriptions of controlled narcotics.
Limbaugh, who has not been charged with any crime, has repeatedly fought back against the charges and negative publicity he's received over the matter.
Last month, he took out full-page ads in two Florida newspapers to attack prosecutors for mounting what he called a politically motivated investigation. He also regularly lashes out against prosecutors and reporters and defends himself during his show.
The criminal case against Limbaugh is on hold pending a decision from a Florida appeals court. It will decide whether the seizure of Limbaugh's medical records, which were taken by investigators in November, violated privacy laws.
Prosecutors say they need the records to determine whether to bring charges against Limbaugh.
He'd talk about going to Las Vegas, or trips, etc.
But, this week he said something that perked my ears, when he said he has no one to talk to at home except for his cat Pumpkin, and she can't talk back.
And, he has been saying that he is home all by himself bothering no one at all, just minding his own business.
I'm saddened by their separation. Lasting love is hard to find. And, even harder to keep.
I hope their separation was not caused by the hostility of an out-of-control State Attorney's political witch hunt against Rush Limbaugh and all the stresses that bears upon a marriage. Even a strong happy marriage could possibly be dented from such an unwarranted and unjustified government attack.
We all know the pressure being married to the world's top talk show host, especially one that creates such passionate hate from the left, must not be an easy road to walk.
I wish them both well, and hopefully, each will find a way back to each other's arms.
Rush often talked about writing a book on the first half of his life, "The Front Nine" but, I'm thinking the chapters to the second half of his life have not been so very easy lately.
Dr. Keyes also ran in 1996.
He is living in a 20+ million dollar home.
I guess with all that room they may have lost each other.
Now I am no beauty far from it but when I heard he was marrying Marta 10yrs ago I cringed at the thought of having sex with him. He IMO is an ugley fat white man.
Marta is about 43 (Rush is 53) and had two (?) children when she married Rush. The divorce also means that the children will lose a stepfather, which is especially tough if they are still minors in the custody of their mother.
Her children are older. I remember hearing on a broadcast about three years ago, Rush was talking about a night out with one of Marta's children and some of his friends while they were on spring break from college.
Thank God for small favors -- it may be less painful for the children if they are out of the house. I don't know what kind of relationship Rush had with them, or even if Marta had custody, but if she had custody ... first to lose a father then a stepfather ... terrible.
Amazing statement. Rush is a human being with the same trials and problems as the rest of us. Wow.
LOL!
OTOH, she may have been in a bad situation for a while and when all of Rush's problems hit, she decided to stay with him, at least officially, until he was stable enough for her to feel like she could leave him. There's no way to know and I hate to speculate.
Drugs have destroyed more good people then the Democrats could ever hope to...
I am truly sorry for the both of them...
NBM, myself.
Absolutely.
Oh, no. Not a VH1 Behind the Music.
I don't know about anyone else on this board, but a divorce isn't gonna stop me from listening to Rush every opportunity I have.
Rush has been a great asset to the conservative movement in the USA. Unfortunately, we can't be all things to all people.
GO RUSHBO! An always remember, if you really want a good argument, just call the ex!
One of the reasons we pay for the internet streaming is that they have to kill the commercials because of AFTRA. Rush might still charge if commercials could go out over the net, but many others might not bother.
I learned what a liberal is from Rush. As for his own personal failings, I would pray for him and hope he could become as perfect as his many judges.
Funny? I guess. Old fashioned things look pretty funny to modern people.
So that's his third bad judgement call?
