Thank you so much for compiling this collection! I will enjoy reading them again, and I plan to send them to my father. He adored Reagan, but was out of town during the funeral and I doubt he got to hear all of the eulogies. I know he will love them!
Some may see this as a slam at Bush 43, and it may have been meant to be, but even if it was, it misses the mark. God does not gives us mandates. Flase gods and false religions give mandates.
The Bible is full of those who took upon themselves mandates. King Saul 'had a mandate.' King David accepted a responsibility. Accepting responsibility is to be willing to be a servant. Think of the person that comes into a church, and then just wants to help out. I have seen them. They are so touched by the love and grace of God, that they take service upon themselves. They might walk around and pick up papers and trash after the service, without being asked to. The ladies that cook meals or do other things, just to be of service to others. Or the guy that goes out and takes time from his day off, and cuts the church grass, or even cuts the grass for an elderly neighbor. These people have under stood what Jesus said.
The disciples argued about which one of them would be the greatest. Jesus said, "Kings like to throw their weight around and people in authority like to give themselves fancy titles. It's not going to be that way with you. Let the senior among you become like the junior; let the leader act the part of the servant. "Who would you rather be: the one who eats the dinner or the one who serves the dinner? You'd rather eat and be served, right? But I've taken my place among you as the one who serves. And you've stuck with me through thick and thin. Now I confer on you the royal authority my Father conferred on me 30so you can eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and be strengthened as you take up responsibilities among the congregations of God's people. (The Message Translation; Luke 22:25-29) Thos who accept responsibility are given authority.
President Reagan was a servant who was raised up (like Queen Esther) for such a time as this. One thing I noticed over the week of tributes, Reagan really wasn't too concerned about what others thought of him. God had given him a responsibility, and he knew that God would see it through.
We all have a responsibility that God wants to give us, and we get it by becoming a servant. He's already given us commands for servanthood; love your enemies, take care of others, love God with your whole being, love you neighbor as yourself. That's what a servant does. And Jesus said that servants are lifted up by God. I believe Ronald reagan was a servant, and God made him great! I think the same of George W. Bush, but a greater recognition of his service is yet to come. Remember, all the critics were saying, W is more like Reagan than G H W Bush. We have all thought that as well. I think Pres. Bush is destined for greatness as well. Time and events far beyond the control, and anticipation of man will come to pass, and W will be seen in greatness, because I believe he has a servant's heart. Let us take that role in the world where we are. Mine and yours may not be to bring down an 'evil empire,' but it may be something just as important to the heart of God!
The one from the pastor's yesterday in CA.

Can you redirect the Patti Davis link to the following thread in order to make sure the paper doesn't take down that page? Thanks.
