"Yep....blubbering here as well. Mine started when Nancy leaned on the coffin one last time."

That's what did it for me. Then the kids came running up and hugged her and I really lost it.

I spent the day attending two services for a staff member who died in her 40's after a sudden, severe illness. Drove two hours to her funeral service listening on the radio to the D.C. funeral service, then two more hours listening to the radio on my way to the staff interment service. Then a long drive home.

So I heard much of the funeral as it happened, but didn't see video until today. Needless to say, it was one of the most draining days I can recall. I was wrung out before I reached the staff funeral, and it was a tear jerker, as well.

I am watching much of the CSPAN replay today, and thank FReepers for pointing out things that I listened for and watched for in particular.

The casket, of course, will be draped with That Blue Dress from The Gap.

The riderless horse in DC did me in. Amazing Grace on the bagpipes and Taps did as well. My heart bled for Nancy, especially when she hugged the coffin.

Can't say there was a single moment.

What I can say is that Wednesday, in the heat, I got to honor a great man. I was at Constitution and 15th street in DC on Wed. TV can't really convey what it was like to be there.

Took time off of work to do it; gonna catch hell on Monday, but it was something I had to do.

Got a lot of stuff on VCR this weekend as well as on Camcorder.

Best to all of you! 'Pod.

Count me in too...I cried even more when Nancy cried, when she kissed the casket, when she spoke to President Reagan. I cried when the general had to tell her it was time to leave to go back to California.. that was when she was watching them put the casket back into the hearse after the ceremony. I just kept thinking..let her stay a bit longer. She so deserves as much time as she needs.. He was so tender with her the entire week.

I laughed when President Bush mentioned the tu-tu so-so comment..it's so funny to just burst out laughing so unexpectedly. :)

Yes, on and off all week. Especially Friday morning when I went to work, as everyone on the road was driving with their headlights on. I tied a black ribbon to my POW/MIA bracelet that I always wear.

I think those of us that loved him have been crying off and on for 10 years. Finally he is at peace.

I cried when those liberal news people tried to rationalize why there was such an outpouring for this remarkable man. Some of their remarks were just plain insulting. I cried when they just HAD to interject their sly political jabs... like about Thatcher's comment about Reagan and the "not firing a shot" statement. If Reagan would have been in a 911 situation, I have no doubts "shots would have been fired."
I cried when Ronnie, the ballerina son, made those politicized comments about "religion." It was just so not the time or place. I cried when he made that whatever-it-was look at Mike when he commented he was "the lucky one."
I cried and cried and cried knowing that the Reagan's had protected my President from the glare of the media vultures. I cried, knowing they had a very different vision of him. A vision of an aged man, ravaged by illness. I cried when it was reported that Nancy was stunned that we not had forgotten our President. I cried out of a new-found respect and admiration for her!! God Bless Nancy!! I cried for bitterness I had held toward Patti, and had to let go of... as I watched her protectively watching over her mother.
I cried because I knew Reagan was really gone this time. I cried because I knew the battle was now not just Nancy's in preserving his legacy.

Still too choked up to have a real good cry and let it all out, but my tears have been flowing since I first heard the news.

The casket, of course, will be draped with That Blue Dress from The Gap.

And being a super plus size, it will cover the entire casket well.

Not sure why Salon.com would be considered a source reputable enough to malign any member of President Reagan's family this week.

What got me was when Michael looked back at the casket right at the end of his speech. My wife cried at the health club this morning on the treadmill. Fox was showing clips of the ceremony.

Malign, eh? Guess I'll have to defend my position:)

I also wrote that I viewed most of what Ron Reagan said as a nice remembrance, and that he had every right to memorialize his father however he saw fit.

Clearly based on the eloquence of his statement he can communicate effectively. So, I must believe that the words he used in the eulogy were carefully selected. Some of them were just oblique and vague enough to avoid the over-the-top Wellstone funerally criticism but yet make his point (if you know his political beliefs). Ron Reagan has been speaking against GWB for years. There really isn't much doubt as to his opinion.

Reasonable people can certainly differ, and we very well may on this issue. But I'm not sure it maligns someone to provide a link to one of many publicly accessible and google-able web pages which contains their own words and opinions. When somewhat cryptic references are made, I think it's acceptable to use other sources of information for clarification.

If the only point of contention is the source of information then here's a link to a fox story and a PBS radio transcript that restates from several sources and at several different times, yet in very similar ways Reagan's opinion of Bush 43.

NPA, thanks for your response. Here's how I heard the phrase:

"...responsibility not a mandate..."

That would be NAA, not NPA.
