Ah but friend, you have seen the light. Rejoice and spread the word of liberty and freedom.

When we think of those
with whom we've traveled down life's path
let us not say with sadness
that they have left us;
but rather with gratitude
that they were once with us.

based on an old Russian poem...

I only cried:
every time I saw Nancy hold back the pained grief,

at every outpouring of love and respect by the common citizens lining the streets and highways,

at every majestic word by Reagan's ministerial soul-mate, Lady Thatcher - she was Churchillian,

at the salute in the Rotunda by the soldier who lost both his hands to help free the people of Iraq,

at the playing of Taps in the Sunset and the naval officer on his bended knee,

other than that, this vet, was as stoic as that next face to be carved into Mount Rushmore.

(as an immigrant who came to this country at the age of six, I still shed tears for Elian Gonzalez. The day he and Mr. Reagan were taken were my saddest days as a U.S. citizen. )

Yes I cried a lot during todays events. Four hours of the funeral coverage was just too much emotionally. But I came back for the evening ceremonies. I went to see Reagan lying in state at the Rotunda on Wednesday night/ Thursday morning.

I heard about this while I was the Belmont Race. I noticed that Ronald Reagan died on the exact same date as my father last year. It was just about the exact same time. Funny coincidence.

Ver poignant this week. Have been glued to the TV. By the way Fox news with Britt Hume was missing the annoying blather of commentary today. That was wonderful. Chris Matthews was not as respectful of the viewing public.

Yep....blubbering here as well. Mine started when Nancy leaned on the coffin one last time.

My Dad passed away several years ago and I wept very deeply at that point also. It is the point of "finality".

I wept deeply several times during the service. Oh how much I loved this man...

Only our Lord God could produce a TV show such as the one we just witnessed. It's most likely a life changing event.

My thoughts also. So many of this man's steps "were ordered of the Lord", as I believe was the timing of his death.

I was fine until I saw the Captain of the USS Ronald Reagan hand Nancy that flag, knowing that as he did so he said those traditional words; "Mrs Reagan, please accept this, your country's flag, with the heartfelt thanks of a grateful nation."

I started crying again just reading your post on the traditional saying.

What the heck. I've been crying all week. I can't stop. I loved that man, Ronald Wilson Reagan.

My wife and I sat down and started watching (again) together just as the casket was carried out. After holding it in all week, i could barely mutter a warning that I was about to blubber like a baby, then it came. She fell apart too, we just sat there in the dark watching when my 16 year old daughter came home from doing Friday-night teenage girl things.
Funny, she didn't ask what was wrong, just sat down, turned off the ever-ringing cell phone and solemnly watched the reast of the funeral and sniffled with us. She dropped all the usual teenage "me" behavior during this, was moved that we were so moved by Reagan. we had a wonderful discussion about leadership, doing the right thing, and how much different her life would be now if Reagan hadn't been the right man at the right time, turning the country around and effectively freeing 1/3 the world from oppression.
She asked and all three of us discussed and offered our views on "what is agreat leader"- what it takes, why some great people in office aren't or don't become great leaders. we all agreed eventually it was not only doing the right thing, but doing it without apology for the right reasons and not caring who gets credit for it.
she commented at this point to our surprise that she didn't think Bill Clinton's funeral would be like this at all.
i fell asleep exhausted and content.

Didn't see it. I'm out in The Hinterlands.

My dad taped it for me.

I did shed tears upon hearing of his death last Sunday morning and choked up when I got a glimpse of he funeral procession on the TV in the chow hall a few days ago.

I hear it was a beautiful ceremony yesterday.

I saw that, too. I also noticed that Ahnold was not singing. I know sometimes it is hard to sing when emotions are high, but I found it ironic that Thatcher was singing and the governor wasn't.

Ron Reagan doesn't like GWB. Hey what can you expect he apparently lives in Seattle now. It certainly was his prerogative to eulogize his father as he wished. And other than those couple of oblique references it was a beautiful remembrance.

Just went to the link you posted in #193. I am stunned. Ron Jr. is a vapid leftist who HATES Dubya and his entire administration. The vitriolic rant I just read (brought to us via Salon) makes me feel like I need to take a shower. VERY BAD.

Ugh . . . .

I can't remember how many times my eyes welled up this week. Even at work, far away from any television or radio, just thinking about the MAN, and his MESSAGE, and how much I will miss him. I hope to visit his library one day soon and pay my personal respects.

Actually, I don't know about any enmity between Ron Reagan and W; I thought he was referring to our smirking former-president (BJC)

If you are curious, follow the link on post #193. It will blow your mind.
