DISC JOCKEY FIRED AFTER RADIO SHOW CELEBRATING REAGAN'S DEATH
AP Breaking News ^ | 11 June 2004 | Spencer Shroyer

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A college disc jockey who put on a radio show celebrating Ronald Reagan's death was fired Friday from his position as the station's business manager. Scott Hornyak, a 28-year-old undergraduate student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, had been suspended indefinitely from his disc jockey job at KSUA-FM after the Sunday show. "They're firing me because of what I said, and the public's reaction to what I said," said Hornyak, who goes by the call name "Spider Bui."

H.B. Telling, the station's general manager, said he could not comment on whether Hornyak lost his job because of the broadcast. The university has a policy against discussing personnel issues. No tape of the show was available. But according to Hornyak, he berated Reagan, who died June 5, for his foreign policy in Latin America, Iraq and Afghanistan, and for his response to the AIDS epidemic. Hornyak said the show was "a celebration that Ronald Reagan was dead, was finally dead," and that he told listeners he wanted to "walk over the newly laid dirt" on Reagan's grave.

Telling said the station received numerous complaints about the show. Telling said Hornyak was suspended as a disc jockey solely because of his failure to obey the station's rules, not because of the inflammatory content of the show. He said Hornyak did not fill out a log of the songs he played on air and did not play the station's standard disclaimers announcing that his views did not represent those of the station or the university. Hornyak said he did not fill out the logs due to absent-mindedness and that he did not play the disclaimer because he was busy taking song requests. Hornyak said he was not sure whether he will contest his firing.

Mr. Hornyak,

You would do well to keep your mouth shut and go to your next job. At least you had a chance through the national media to state your views and rebuttals. Some of us NEVER got that much of a chance. If it were up to me...oh well, forget it.

What an evil SOB this guy is. Is he infected with AIDS and wants to blame someone?

The liberals should applaud his firing. They are always talking about getting rid of "Hate Radio".

It's obvious this guy just couldn't control his hate.

I could control his hate. My wife won't let me. His last name has to be made up. Sounds like a homosexual to me...

". . .go to your next job."

Hmmm. . .he is a 28-year-old undergraduate student. . .I'm thinking he doesn't have many prospects in that regard.

What is with this crap "Reagans response to the AIDS epidemic"??? That`s all I`ve been hearing from these Pinko mutts all week. Excuse me boneheads, but it`s been over 20 years and there still is no cure! So to me what they are suggesting, is that Reagan should have quarantined all AIDS patients or potential AIDS patients, which back then was mainly gays and drug addicts. Are they kidding me? And what would have happened if he did? All hell would have broken loose with these very same lefties screaming "tyranny, homophobia, unlawful imprisonment bla bla bla" What a bunch of ungrateful freggin` mutts. And how much money was spent on AIDS during Reagan? Something like 6 BILLION bucks?

Mr. Hornyak,
You would do well to keep your mouth shut and go to your next job.

And don't forget to hand the fries to the customer before they cool off.

Sounds like a valid reason to me --- but then, I'm not a communist stooge.

...28-year-old undergraduate...

Well, I was generally considered to be a "perpetual student," but by age 28 I had a professorship and earned a full $10,000/year only teaching 5 courses per semester (but no research.)
