Reagan Criticized for 'Ignoring' AIDS Epidemic

(CNSNews.com) - Several homosexual advocacy groups are closed on Friday for a day of mourning -- but they won't be mourning President Ronald Reagan.

Equality California, which is fighting to legalize same-sex marriage, announced that it would join the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force in closing its offices on June 11, 2004 in memory of the millions of people who have died of AIDS.

"As California's state-wide LGBT advocacy organization, whose roots come out of the AIDS pandemic, we are closing in honor of our brothers and sisters who died as a result of President Reagan's silence and failure to act," said Equality California Executive Director Geoffrey Kors.

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force also announced that it would close on June 11 "in memory of all those we have lost to AIDS," the group's website said.

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force website also carried a letter from Executive Director Matt Foreman, who blames President Reagan and "evangelical Christian conservatives" for deliberately ignoring the AIDS epidemic.

In the letter, addressed to his best friend Steven who died of AIDS in 1995, Foreman writes that even now, "I'm not able to set aside the shaking anger I feel over Reagan's non-response to the AIDS epidemic or for the continuing anti-gay legacy of his administration."

Foreman said he believes his friend Steven would still be alive today "if the Reagan administration had mounted even a tepid response to the epidemic."

Foreman believes the Reagan's administration's response was deliberate -- "dictated by the grip of evangelical Christian conservatives who saw gay people as sinners and AIDS as God's well-deserved punishment." He singles out Pat Buchanan, William Bennett, and Gary Bauer as three of the conservatives who never let science interfere with politics.

Foreman concludes that the "unholy pact President Reagan and the Republican Party entered with the forces of religious intolerance" has "grown exponentially stronger" over the years, and he sees that as Reagan's legacy.

Other homosexual advocacy groups, including the Human Rights Campaign and the Log Cabin Republicans, expressed sadness at Reagan's passing.

"President Reagan will be remembered in part for his leadership in defeating the discriminatory Briggs Amendment in 1978, which would have banned gay and lesbian Californians from teaching in public schools," said Cheryl Jacques, who heads the Human Rights Campaign.

As California governor, Reagan opposed the Briggs Amendment, and activists credit him with turning voters against it.

Patrick Guerriero, executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, called Reagan "one of our nation's greatest presidents" and said his "inspirational vision for America relied on optimism, hope and an enduring faith in individual freedom."

But the bath houses will remain open.

Ronald Reagan was also responsible for nasty thunderstorms, burnt toast, bad hair days, rug burn, and puppies who get run over by cars.

Everything else that is bad is George Bush's fault.

None of them died as a result of their own actions, particularly the continued practice of unprotected anal sex long after it had been established that this was the proximate cause of about 99% of AIDS infections.

But the bath houses will remain open.

As they did when the "epidemic" was in it's formative years. They were warned of the dangers, they were pleaded with to close the bathhouses, and (as the movie stated) 'the band played on'.

In 1985, the doctors were already telling the gay community what the general problem was and how to avoid the problem. If they didn't listen to a health professional, then why would they listen to some president? And if they think money will solve this problem...they are in the same group that believes homelessness in America can be solved via $ as well.

Maybe Reagan should have done what the left-wing favorite Castro is doing with people with AIDS - lock them away in AIDS concentration camps...

you nailed it.

The homosexuals are out in force to attack Reagan.

They do not want any awarness of the man lead by determining good and evil, right and wrong.

I feel it would be very safe to say RWR would oppose homosexual marriage or "normalizing" homosexual conduct in public or the public schools.

So what, was Reagan the second coming of the Messiah??? I am a great admirer of Reagan, but I wasn't aware that he had the power to cure people who had terminal illnesses.

/sarcasm

Wrong! Steven is dead because of his foolish choice to be homosexual! Amazing how folks never want to take responsibility for their own bad decisions!

"As California's state-wide LGBT advocacy organization, whose roots come out of the AIDS pandemic, we are closing in honor of our brothers and sisters who died as a result of President Reagan's silence and failure to act," said Equality California Executive Director Geoffrey Kors.

just a few points:

Pandemic: Epidemic over a wide geographic area and affecting a large proportion of the population

Epidemic: Spreading rapidly and extensively by infection and affecting many individuals in an area or a population at the same time.

The AIDS situation never qualified for the definition of epidemic in this country, let alone pandemic. The term outbreak may be more appropriate.

Funding for AIDS is wildly disproportionate to countless other diseases with even more disastrously impact. The first that comes to mind is Alzheimer's, however there are numerous others.

Finally, AIDS is entirely preventable with even a modicum of caution.

AIDS killed those men, not RWR. Denial, denial, denial, -- all of the left practices it.

http://www.virusmyth.net/aids/

"If there is evidence that HIV causes AIDS, there should be scientific documents which either singly or collectively demonstrate that fact, at least with a high probability. There is no such document."
Dr. Kary Mullis, Biochemist, 1993 Nobel Prize for Chemistry.

"Up to today there is actually no single scientifically really convincing evidence for the existence of HIV. Not even once such a retrovirus has been isolated and purified by the methods of classical virology."
Dr. Heinz Ludwig Sänger, Emeritus Professor of Molecular Biology and Virology, Max-Planck-Institutes for Biochemy, München.

It's time to re-evaluate the HIV-AIDS hypothesis:

Is HIV really the cause of AIDS ?

A growing group of bio-medical scientists claim the cause of AIDS is still unknown. These heretics do not believe in the lethal AIDS virus called HIV. They claim that the virus is indeed harmless. Most of them think AIDS is also not sexually transmitted; it probably has toxic causes. People die because they are poisoned to death by toxic antiviral drugs. Part of the AIDS dissidents even question the existence of a virus entity. These HIV skeptics say that the AIDS virus has never really been isolated, and the AIDS tests are worthless...

This website tells you their story.

Any attempt by the Reagan administration to "do something" effective about AIDS would have been met with howls of protest from these very same people who are complaining that he didn't do anything.

The "gay community" protested loudly when Ed Koch -- New York City's androgenous liberal mayor at the time -- closed the city's gay bath houses as a way of slowing the spread of AIDS. So you can imagine what would have happened if the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services had ordered a mandatory quarantine of AIDS patients.

While aids is only a virus which only knows to infect, the irony is that according to the CDC 92% plus of new aids infections are homosexuals.

Homosexual conduct is STILL the dominant way aids is spread. It is STILL a death sentence.

Homosexuals attack Reagan is based on a homosexual myth that Reagan did not care. This is from the outright LIE in the "thereagans" CBS movie produced by two homosexuals. They were just attacking republican icons.

"Gee, then what was that 6 billion bucks for?"

AIDS was not an issue on the political scene until 1981, period. In otherwords, there was zero Federal funding for AIDs up until Ronald Reagan (the Greatest President in over sixty years) signed off on the expenditure,. That is 6 Billion Bucks worth.

The liberals and Homosexual Lobby bitch because Ronald Reagan (the Greatest President in over sixty years) was not PC about the epidemic and he did not "embrace" the issue. Problem is, about half of the sheep within this country have no center and believe virtually everything they are told, somewhat like Sponge Bob.

"Who has the time to gather facts these days, with The Bachelor and all of the "Reality Shows" that must be watched."

Help, we are surrounded by @ssholes!!!

To paraphrase another poster on another thread...
People that wish Regan had stood up and said something about AIDS are ignoring the fact that if the gays in the 80s had sat down and kept their mouths shut they would not have gotten it in the first place.
