Reagan Criticized for 'Ignoring' AIDS Epidemic
CNSNEWS.com ^ | 6/11/04 | Susan Jones

(CNSNews.com) - Several homosexual advocacy groups are closed on Friday for a day of mourning -- but they won't be mourning President Ronald Reagan.

Equality California, which is fighting to legalize same-sex marriage, announced that it would join the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force in closing its offices on June 11, 2004 in memory of the millions of people who have died of AIDS.

"As California's state-wide LGBT advocacy organization, whose roots come out of the AIDS pandemic, we are closing in honor of our brothers and sisters who died as a result of President Reagan's silence and failure to act," said Equality California Executive Director Geoffrey Kors.

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force also announced that it would close on June 11 "in memory of all those we have lost to AIDS," the group's website said.

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force website also carried a letter from Executive Director Matt Foreman, who blames President Reagan and "evangelical Christian conservatives" for deliberately ignoring the AIDS epidemic.

In the letter, addressed to his best friend Steven who died of AIDS in 1995, Foreman writes that even now, "I'm not able to set aside the shaking anger I feel over Reagan's non-response to the AIDS epidemic or for the continuing anti-gay legacy of his administration."

Foreman said he believes his friend Steven would still be alive today "if the Reagan administration had mounted even a tepid response to the epidemic."

Foreman believes the Reagan's administration's response was deliberate -- "dictated by the grip of evangelical Christian conservatives who saw gay people as sinners and AIDS as God's well-deserved punishment." He singles out Pat Buchanan, William Bennett, and Gary Bauer as three of the conservatives who never let science interfere with politics.

Foreman concludes that the "unholy pact President Reagan and the Republican Party entered with the forces of religious intolerance" has "grown exponentially stronger" over the years, and he sees that as Reagan's legacy.

Other homosexual advocacy groups, including the Human Rights Campaign and the Log Cabin Republicans, expressed sadness at Reagan's passing.

"President Reagan will be remembered in part for his leadership in defeating the discriminatory Briggs Amendment in 1978, which would have banned gay and lesbian Californians from teaching in public schools," said Cheryl Jacques, who heads the Human Rights Campaign.

As California governor, Reagan opposed the Briggs Amendment, and activists credit him with turning voters against it.

Patrick Guerriero, executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, called Reagan "one of our nation's greatest presidents" and said his "inspirational vision for America relied on optimism, hope and an enduring faith in individual freedom."

If Reagan "ignored" AIDS, what about all those who willfully ignored it and continued to spread it because they didn't want to change their own behavior?

It's easier to pin the blame on someone else rather than accept the consequences for their own behavior.

If Reagan was ignorant and inattentive to AIDS, how is it that he lived to 93?

You know it amazes time and time again how liberals have absolutely no shame when it comes to propaganda, but this one takes the cake. A US President has died and a great one at that, but that means nothing to them at all. The #1 agenda to them is still to get that power, to promote their BS. Reagan ignored AIDS..Yeah OK. And if he quarantined gays and drug addicts which is the only possible things he could have done to stop AIDS in this country, would liberals have accepted that? I could only imagine the riots that would have caused. Over 20 years later, billions of dollars and still no cure, but Reagan is the bad guy.

Finally, AIDS is entirely preventable with even a modicum of caution.

And the hysteria died down once that was disseminated through the population. I remember the Morgan Fairchild TV commercials informing me that I couldn't get AIDS from a fork, etc. Although it was designed to prevent scarlet-lettering homo's, it didn't really help their cause in the end. People didn't feel a moral obligation to help those that wouldn't even help themselves, and the homo's ended up having to face the music and start adhering to a "safe sex" campaign once the magic cure proved too elusive.

Homosexual conduct is STILL the dominant way aids is spread. It is STILL a death sentence.

And the gay community STILL refuses to admit it's their own actions that are the major problem.

In the mid 1990s, the researcher David Ho and others demonstrated (using the new protease inhibitors which could switch the virus off at will) that viral load is a good predictor of a patient's progress in his disease -- if you have more virus in your bloodstream, you will progress to full AIDS quicker; if you have AIDS, you will die quicker. This notion that we don't really know what causes AIDS is really out of date.

Let's get this straight just one last time. There is no AIDS epidemic. HIV does not cause AIDS and AIDS is not a sexually-transmitted disease.

If HIV actually caused an "Acquired!!" Immune Deficiency and was sexually transmitted, and was lethal (as we continue to be told it is!), it would have spent the last 25 years sweeping through the heterosexual teenage and college age and 20-something age groups in this country where sex is indeed "endemic and epidemic".

Millions of heterosexual youth should now be dead. And since many married couples in this country do not practice monogamy, older heterosexuals should have also died by the millions.

But they didn't. Because Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome has been historically (and presently) confined to two groups, IV drug users and homosexuals, primarily male.

If anyone has heard these absolutely ludicrous radio commercials predicting 25 million dead from HIV in the years ahead, you should clearly understand how the "Gay" (although I'm personally at a loss to see what is so gay about being a homosexual??) lobby has literally scammed billions of dollars and scientific research out of your back pocket. You've been had.

P.S. May Magic Johnson rest in peace. What's that you say, Magic is still alive and kickin???? Why imagine that. Gee, and without a cure or a vaccine. I guess they didn't call him Magic for nothing!

Not one person from my high school class has, or has died of HIV. Now I can't say if any homos or IV drug users from my undergraduate or graduate classes checked out, but I do know that there are NO cases of HIV in my daughter's middle school, our high school, or in our contiguous community. Further, I only know of one individual who ever died of "AIDS". He was a homosexual MD living in NY city that I worked closely with. I worked in New York for several years and never directly knew anyone who died of AIDS other than homosexuals.

Frankly, I have to hand it to the homosexual community. It has perpetrated the longest and most expense fraud on the American taxpayer in history. They've piled enough "White" guilt on you people, and enough fraudulent science that you actually sympathize with these bastards.

Well, personally, I want my money back, and I want these scam radio commercials taken off the air. So just run over to your nearest window, stick you head out and scream, "I'm mad as hell, ...and I'm not going to take it any more!" Uh, that will be $150 for my house-call. Cash is appreciated!

Homosexual conduct is still the dominant way AIDS is spread, but I don't think the percent of new infections that are in homosexuals is anywhere near 92%. More like 45%. (70% of infections are in men, 30% in women; of the men, 60% are infected through gay sex. This is in the US. The numbers are radically different in Africa, where 20% or more of adults in various countries have HIV -- most of those transmissions are in heterosexuals.)

You're right that it's a myth that Reagan didn't care. There were two or three years before many people knew what a threat AIDS would become, but once the magnitude of the problem became clear, the Reagan administration quickly ramped up funding.

And I am not able to set aside the shaking anger I feel over the left's love and promotion of gay sex and same sex marriage. So in today's world I guess that makes me a homophobe, and this lying speaker the enlightened one.

Therefore, even "protected" sex is not "safe", not to mention the failure rate of condoms adding to the safety factor.

The real reason that public health authorities have promoted condom use (ever since C. Everett Koop did in the 1980s) is that if enough gay men use them, the rate of transmission of HIV might drop enough so that the AIDS epidemic would slowly burn out, or at least be contained. There is evidence that this strategy worked, at least for a time, as the 1980s generation of homosexual men did practice "safer" sex. (Now the younger generation of homosexual men are said to be less cautious, and HIV transmission rates are increasing again.)

The CDC does say, very plainly, in its guidelines for HIV prevention, that abstinence (or monogamy with an uninfected partner, i.e., marriage) is the only way to be completely sure you won't get HIV. Odd how the bottom line recommendations agree with what the Bible teaches.

There is no AIDS epidemic. HIV does not cause AIDS and AIDS is not a sexually-transmitted disease.

Epidemiologists knew AIDS was sexually transmitted before AIDS was called AIDS. They knew this because of the way cases were clustering in the very early 1980s. Not all homosexuals were getting it, but homosexuals in groups of homosexuals who were promiscuously sexually active with each other were coming down with AIDS together. The theory that drugs (poppers) and the inherent nature of gay sex were causing AIDS was quickly discarded.

Now, HIV is spreading among heterosexuals. Not very many, to be sure, but in certain communities. Poor rural blacks in the south are now getting HIV in worrisome numbers. But the real focus of the epidemic is not the US, it's sub-Saharan Africa, where 20% - 40% of the population has the virus, and the death toll is already horrific. These transmissions are mostly heterosexual, caused by rampant prostitution and promiscuity coupled with poor sanitation and lack of health care (if you have untreated gonorrhea or other STDs, it's much easier to get HIV).

Anyone who assumes only homosexuals get AIDS, and who is sexually promiscuous, is taking a risk. How big a risk depends. For your average white college kid, not a big risk. But occasionally, college kids do get HIV. (E.g., they don't know their casual sex partner that weekend happens to be a needle drug user. These things do happen.)

Respectfully,

It's silly, since HIV has never been isolated.

Go ahead and prove it, and collect the money!

Prove it.

Before you do that, prove that the HIV virus has been isolated.

They don't use any kind of "testing" in africa, the numbers are made up. And, furthermore, the symptoms in Africa are different.... It's not the same disease.

Remember the "60 Minutes" piece about AIDS? It was called "Patient Zero" and told about a gay male flight attendant named Gaeton Dugay who allegedly had sex with monkeys in Africa. Then he frequented San Francisco bath houses. Supposedly, scientists tracked the epidemic back to this guy, so says 60 Minutes.

So, today we have gay men who are "bug chasers". Remember recently hearing about them. they actually want to be infected!

From having sex with monkeys to now purposely wanting to get infected, the gay community brought this on themselves.
