Question on the service men that carry the casket. I keep worrying that those gloves would make it slippery - do you suppose they have rubber palms or something? Surely not just smooth cotton.

It has to be a tad "slippery"..to use your word, because when they pivit, and change the hand holds from side to front, their hands have to move smoothly..

They're not special gloves...the men of the funeral detail are very very good at what they do.

I was sent an e-mail last night that was telling what was required to be a guardmans of the unknown soldier. I couldn't believe all the requirements but one of the things it said is they dampen their gloves so they can keep a grip on the rifle as they change it from hand to hand as the go around as the rifle is always to be to the outside.
