I can't carry into work, either, but then, I'm off for the summer! :~)
Just remember, serious guns/calibers for serious times! No mouseguns! Nothing smaller than a 9mm and preferably no calibers that start with a number other than "4." Realistically that would mean a .40 or a .45ACP. Yes it's a pain in the summertime. I live in South Florida. So I carry a belly bag with my Glock M27 in 40 cal. Or I go to an IWB for my 45 Colt Commander. ALWAYS carry a spare mag.
If you see your front sight in sharp relief and you see your target at the same time (little bit fuzzy) you're almost guaranteed a hit.
Just remember: FRONT SIGHT!

Nice piece. I usually carry a Beretta 92 w/ 2 extra 15rnd mags. It's got a CTC laser sight for low light conditions. Makes target acquisition FAST.
Only drawback is it's not easy to conceal in the summer. I wear long, lose short sleeve shirts. I'm thinking about getting a Sig P239 in .40. A bit easier to conceal.
It's good to know there are folks out and armed. 'The life you save may be someone else's.'
It could very well be one armed citizen in the right place at the right time that stops an attack.
